Forums - Gaming - Current thoughts on the future of each big three

Very simple thread that I thought would be cool to make. Just place your thoughts about each company and their future.

Rule: no comments like "errhhh nintendo sucks and it'll die lol" or "Sony is for virgins who like waifus". If you wanna flame, do it somewhere else :p

Sony- the gaming market definitely will stay strong. I see 2017 be the last year with this many games. It'll slowly decrease until we see PS5. PS4 will probably end with 85 million and be declared a massive success.

Nintendo- Wii U is officially the new GameCube, with people very happy with the switch. It'll manage to not flop like the Wii U, but it certainly won't sell like the PS2. I see it selling 8-14 a year. I also predict that one game will become the next Ocarina of Time (basically insane reviews). Perhaps Mario Odyssey or a game no one expects?

Microsoft- they'll finish the gen with disappointing, but acceptable results. Maybe 42 million...Their next idea? I'm not even sure anymore. Microsoft is always changing things, so their future doesn't seem so clear.

Nintendo will throw everything it has at the Switch. It will survive, and do better. Probably won't surpass Playstation.

Playstation will do fine, more vulnerable to it's own arrogance or the parent company.

Microsoft...has a lot to fix. Will survive, but where it will go is unclear.

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

Sooo...you expect the ps4 to sell for less than two more years and then fall off a cliff? I don't get your reasoning.

Nintendo - Switch will do fine and be a huge improvement over the Wii U.

Sony - PS4 should sell really well this year and continue strong in 2018. PS5 will come out either late 2019 or 2020.

Microsoft - Highly depends on how the Scorpio does.

It'll definitely sell units, but it won't reach anywhere near 2017. Have you seen the year's lineup? Unless support for ps4 is longer than I expect, I see it hitting the peak this year and having small declines afterwords

You want no flaming, but go right on to post thoughts that have a good chance to incite flaming?

*checks OP again*

Ah, there's a smiley. Now I get it.

I don't know- my posts were quite reasonable. Only fan boys would get triggered.

I agree on this part. I don't understand how you calculated the 85 million though.

Sony is the top dog, dont see that changing.

Xbox is in a tough spot, you dont need one as all the exclusives are on PC.

Nintendo...  I really feel the Switch is the right move.  Consolidate the hardware and it will be supported because nintendo handhelds always are, and they are the only product that is different....  Both the PS4 and Xbox are watered down PC's, how long can this continue?

Nintendo: I'm not entirely sure how well Switch will do yet. There's some hype on forums like this, but nobody I know is getting one or talked about it much. It doesn't appeal to me and I'm afraid the 3rd party situation will be as bad as Wii U, but being portable will at least make it sell better than Wii U.

Sony: Strong lineup of Western games, and increasingly more Japanese titles seem to have increased sales in Japan which will likely make 2017 the best selling year for PS4. Overall the trajectory is a lot better than the PS3 and I expect it will pass 110 Million.

Microsoft: Somehow failing to have much hype around it's games, though has had some really good ones, and continues to sell well in US. I expect it will sell around 50 Million.

My 8th gen collection

Sony: PS4 sales will be its best yet this year then slightly decline in 2018 then decline slightly more all the way through 2022. Playstation just has those legs and developer support behind it. PS4 will stay relevant due to still being supported by developers around the globe and will be a very cheap gaming alternative to people who aren't yet ready to jump on the PS5.

Nintendo: Switch could sell anywhere from 15-90 million for all I know. My guess? About 50 million. Nothing spectacular but also not enough to stop Nintendo from releasing a true 3DS successor; a platform that has much more potential than a Nintendo home console, historically speaking. Switch will get a good stream of games from Nintendo but may not get the 3rd party support it needs to thrive. Will have a good launch but after that things hopefully stay up for the Switch. We'll see.

Microsoft: I predict price cuts during the holidays.
