I love people on forums.

We have topics discussing how the dock is a super overpriced piece and only costs like $5 for Nintendo.
Then we have topics saying that if Nintendo released the system without the dock it will somehow cost $100 cheaper.

Me has spotted a hyperbole.

Never, as there's nothing to "switch" anymore

A switch phone, basically a smartphone running on the switch's OS and eShop instead of Google Playstore (with some added productivity apps) with a stronger, more modern Tegra SoC, but underclocked to match the original Switch SoC in calculating power (to reduce consumtion and thus both develop less heat and have an extended battery life). Other hardware changes: No joycons (can still be used, but not attached to Switch phone; NFC chip in the phone itself), no Gamecard slot (digital only), extended storage capacity to 64-128GB, no connectivity to TV, 5 inch Full HD Display.

Such a model could come around 2019-2020, with Pokemon Go, Super Mario Run and Fire Emblem Heroes (and any other Nintendo Smartphone game produced until then) preinstalled

I also foresee a Switch XL/LL, both with the same SoC as in the Switch, but with bigger Joycons, 7-7.5 inch Display, bigger battery (around 6000 mAh) and a Plus version both in standard size and XL size, with the SoC previously mentioned in the Switch Phone, but unlocked to provide around 2-3x the calculating power of the original Switch, and both with longer battery life than the "normal" Switch

Pfft, "mini". I expect a Switch XL, you know, like a real tablet!

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

It won't be a "switch" device. That won't work as the system is built around a lot more than just being able to dock. Instead you'll see the Switch reduce in price and upgraded models will launch for around the same $300 price point every couple years just as we are seeing with Xbox and Playstation.

Instead the core of your point could happen but it would be a some other smaller / cheaper handheld that played switch titles that don't require the joycons functionality such as motion, IR or HD Rumble. That would be a smaller single screen device with dual analog controls which could still play switch retail and digital content. That could appear for well under $200, with a more kid-friendly look/feel similar to how 2DS was aimed and younger kids.

My guess is: depend how the current sku will sell. And I'm afraid it will sell very well at high price, they won't be needing to de-content, so I think now that is not going to happen.

Never. They are better off to release a smartphone instead

At the end of the 3DS life cycle.

so, in 1-2 years ?!

I'm actually thinking more and more Nintendo really isn't that interested in a Switch Mini. It would happen mainly in a quick fashion only if the current Switch model tanks. If it has even decent success, Nintendo will not only stick with this form factor, but maybe even increase the screen size for future revisions to make it easier for people to gather around and play together.

Being able to sit the system down anywhere and pop off the Joycons and play with other people is not a side feature, it's a central part of the system's appeal, you lose all that with a "Switch Mini". Not to say that Nintendo won't ever offer that, they probably will, but I don't think they're in any rush, nor is such a model ever going to be the "standard" Switch.

It would be more like the 2DS or Game Boy Advance Micro ... a side model that isn't one of the better selling SKUs.

To be honest one of the upgrade paths for the Switch may well be you simply just uprade the main screen portion. You can keep your Joycons and Dock, but you just keep upgrading that main part.

You guys should just embrace this new form factor. This is the future of Nintendo, it's like those people that kept asking for a single screen, non-touch screen Game Boy once the DS came out. Embrace what's new.

To be honest it's not like it's even *that* big with the joycons removed. A regular 3DS does not fit comfortably in pockets with keys + wallet + smartphone either, you have to have a jacket if you're going to comfortably go outside the house with those items, well a jacket can house a Switch too.
