No. Nintendo could never compete with Sony and Microsoft if they tried.

Although the time for head to head competition with a favorable outcome has passed it was there once.  Now they've given up too much market share and i agree they could no longer win that uphill battle.

No, please, that would be so un-Nintendo. They've always tried to innovate with each console iteration, and that's what makes it an exciting company. Don't get me wrong, I love Sony consoles, but they just feel like a mere upgrade from the previous one. Not a bad thing per se, but a bit boring.

I'm kinda torn on this. On one hand, with the innovations Nintendo has done with the Wii, Wii U, DS, 3DS and now the Switch, we've seen cool, new, and interesting ways to play games, has resulted in new creative IPs to be made, and challenges the way we play games. On the other hand though, that lack of power and/or traditional controller has caused to miss some big IPs from 3rd parties. So, I'm not really sure what to pick. Go for the safer route and do away with innovation, or continue with risky new ideas at the cost of sales or a potential failure? It's hard to say for me.

Seeing as how none of the system really use any custom silicon (Switch is a Tegra X1 and ARM CPU ... you can buy a Google tablet and Nvidia Shield that has the same chip, you couldn't buy anything really in 1996 with an N64 chip inside of it), not sure if any of this even matters. The days of companies using exotic, non-standardized tech that was specific to a console and unlike any other product in the market are long over, largely because it doesn't make any damn financial sense to not use off the shelf components anymore.

I make a post about control inputs and you start to talk about chipsets. What is going through your head when you post such responses?

dont pretend this is unusual Soundwave behavior

I dont see how powerful console+traditional controller is the safe route.

Well, that is how Plastation has been, and that's been a success for all gens... minus the Vita.

If you look at the images of all the controllers one after another, you'll easily notice significant differences in the Nintendo line while Sony's and Microsoft's history is pretty much the same thing every time.

Well. It is far more difficult to make radical changes to some of the best controllers of all time. They are the best for a reason.

The original NES controller was uncomfortable to use.
The Nintendo 64 controller looked like it needed 3 Hands to operate, the single analogue stick in retrospect wasn't a good idea.
The Wii's motion controllers weren't enjoyable for me.
The Wii U's gamepad was large, heavy, cumbersome and detracts from the TV.

For me the only controllers Nintendo has ever smashed out of the park was the SNES controller and the Gamecube controller.

I'll keep some reservation on the Switch untill I can hold and use one in person.

What does that have to do with Nintendo?

Ninten hasn't gone with traditional since the gamecube, and while the Wii was a big success, the Wii U was a big failure, while Sony still remaining mostly the same has continued to do well, and with how the industry is currently going, perhaps going with the more powerful console is a safer bet. But I still do love Nintendo and the things they've done and continue to do.

I honestly don't really care any more. As long as the games are good, I don't mind whether they reinvent the wheel or if they follow the book to a tee.
