I guess I didn't consider the fact you'd be playing the incomplete (or non-definitive if you prefer) PS3 version of GTAIV.
ZING!!!

You're so very welcome.
Well Iam getting MGS4 rated well or not. dont care about GTA4 played the first skipped the rest great games to much AC. not my cup of tea but seeing snake crab the statues crouch priceless.
GTA4 will sell more, its on 360 and PS3 has a bigger fanbase and will get more media attention, as for ratings, i expect it to be close, both are highly anticipated and likely to be very good.
Sell more: GTA4
Higher Rating: GTA4
I have very high expectations for MGS4, so high in fact, that I think I will be disapointed. That doesn't even make sense :(
Why would you create a topic like this leo, its like choosing between Cheesecake or Ice Cream ApplePie, they are both really good please dont put my mind in a situation like this
gta will sell more gta would get the higher ratings

Well, TBH, I've always thought the GTA series was overrated. It came to a point where the only things I heard about the game was "Oh you could f@#k a prostitute, kill her and take the money back" or "I burned all the people on the streets with a flame thrower". In essence, the majority of the time I felt like i was playing a sandbox game with very mediocre core gameplay (bad aiming and controls) with tons of mini games and free roaming. However, I will say that since Rockstar North is focusing more on the characters and story, I might end up really enjoying the core gameplay instead of finding a way to have fun. Also, the reason why I believe MGS4 will end up being a better game is because Kojima is actually overhauling and streamlining the mechanics of the series that really needed to be fixed before (camera and insane button layout) ,while keeping the core gameplay that made MGS so great in the past. This is also the final Kojima made Metal gear Solid game, so you know he'll be pulling out all his tricks to end his legacy as MGS creator in a positive way. Either way, I'm sure both games will sell great and play great, I just think MGS4 will be a better overall game.
As for which version I'd be playing.... it depends, My 360 has a crap lens and I get the disk read error blade pop up very often. If the PS3 version is extremely gimped compared to the 360's (Horrible framerates, much lower res textures, extreme loading times) then I'd obviously get the 360 version and end up saving alot to avoid getting screwed really bad by disk errors. If there's only a minor difference like (AA and lower contrast) and the PS3 version is the same game with a warmer color palette like RockStar insist, then I'd get the PS3 version. I also prefer the DS3 over the 360 controller for non-FPS games.
In any case, I hardly know anything about the 360's exclusive DLC, so for me to judge solely based on something i know nothing about would be irresponsible. I also have a 2 game gamefly account, so if i feel the urge to get the episodic content but have the PS3 version, I'd just rent the 360 version for a week or 2. Anyways, being the point that I'm an owner of a high end PC (for now), Wii, PS3 60gig and 360, I really doubt that I'd run out of games to play and be forced to download the DLC for entertainment, especially with GOW2, R2, and most importantly Starcraft2 coming out this year. It's not like I wouldn't have enough on my plate already.
@bbsin
The PS3 and 360 version will be the same, with the possibility of the PS3 version looking better (if you trust game journalists). As for the DLC, the 360 will get some exclusive content, but that is not to say it's the only content. They might come out with 5 DLC packs, and have the first two be 360 exclusive for example.
OT:
I love MG, I have played them all, all the way back to the SNES days. I hate GTA. The only one I liked was the first one, and that's just because it was fresh and different.
That being said, I am very excited about the new GTA4. It seems all the mechanics have been overhauled, and the game is story driven to much more of an extent then in the past. The voice acting seems top notch, and I like the idea of an immigrant who comes to america and starts havoc. The MGS thing seems a little less fresh.
While they will both be in my collection, and I am sure MG will be incredible, I am actually looking forward to GTA more.
As for sales, it depends. If the PS3 comes with a price drop when MG gets bundled with it, that should really boost sales. GTA will of course sell more total, but not sure on the PS3.
Also, if GTA is as good as everyone who has gotten a sneak peek says it is, I can see it getting very high reviews.
So I am going to go against everyone here.
GTA: Better Score
MGS: Higher Sales.
