Forums - Nintendo - Is the hype real?

Switch is seeing a lot of mixed criticizm lately. Some of it is justified in my opinion while other bits are minor quibbles. However, I just watched this video and at 9:16... wow. That is Wii level right there. Is the hype more real than I expected?

It is for me. This system looks great.

The hype for Zelda is real.

Switch, eh, whatever. I mean I like it, I want to get one eventually... but getting hype for hardware, well, that's not my thing.

^

As cool as hardware features are, they're useless without software to back it up. No one would get VR hesdsets if all you can do is view 360 cat videos.

We'll find out come April. Switch will almost certainly have a good launch month, it's whether it maintains that initial success for the following months that will be interesting.

Really?

If Switch stays sold out, it won't be because of demand. You can place your bets on the explanation being that Nintendo is trying to create artificial demand by providing low supply.

Yep. Some people will find any reason to try and downplay Nintendo success. If Switch sells amazingly, the usual excuse from these people in an attempt to try to downplay it will be "b-but no shit they sold well when they barely sent any cause they are making artificial demand !!11!".

Don't worry we'll have VGC numbers soon enough to shut up all those haters!

But this is really what I am asking. That line looks Wii like and that console sustained great sales (record breaking sales, actually) for its first two years. Is there really that much or even close to that much consumer interest? I talk to people about it around me and while some seem interested, I was not feeling like it was to that level of excitment. It was FREEZING cold there, too.

Regardless, we will have to wait and see how it sells through its first couple months. I know Wii U started off strong but dropped off a cliff shortly after that start.

Not correct. You can't fake the numbers at the end of the day so we'll know in the months after launch whether it's doing well.

Microsoft, "faked" numbers when they said each XBOX 360 console they sent out in replacement of RRoD consoles were actually consoles, "sold" so it is possible to fake numbers. Not that I think Nintendo will do that, just saying it is possible.

If you think that having sales numbers means anything to the people who try to downplay good news still then you might not have seen a lot of Nintendo things such as threads in the past. Plenty of people tried to deny and downplay the Wii's success too despite knowing how well it was selling.

I'm just saying that some people will try to find a way to downplay something no matter what, which isn't a Nintendo specific thing by any means, a bunch of people do that for any of the 3 big companies, but i'm just saying that if the Switch sells amazingly, or even just great, I expect that will be the excuse a lot of those people use since some people seem to genuinely believe in the "artificial scarcity to create demand" Nintendo thing.

Hype is real, actually we have some criticize only after revile because of online and little shown games, everything else in most cases was positive.
Switch definatly looks much more like Wii and much less like Wii U.
