Forums - Gaming - Bayonetta 3 now in the works thanks to Scalebound's cancellation?

I recently came across this article and after reading it, it seems to confirm that Bayonetta 3 is currently in the works, well at least about to be anyway due to Scalebound's cancellation.

PlatinumGames designer Hideki Kamiya is currently working on Scalebound, which is slated to hit Xbox One and Windows PC next year. But he says he wants to return to his character-action game franchise, Bayonetta, after that.

During an interview with Kamiya at E3, I asked whether he'd consider making a Bayonetta 3, once Scalebound is released.

"To answer your question straightly, yes," Kamiya said. "It's actually something I've been thinking a lot about. We've talked a lot about it internally at the company and I've written some outlines for what the game would be. And I feel really confident it would be cool if we got the chance to make it.

"Right now, we're looking at opportunities... If that opportunity ever came up to make Bayonetta 3, that would be really, really cool."

Bayonetta 3 would be a bigger hook to buy a Switch than any Mario game.

Edit: This post constitutes a personal opinion and view on the current announced library for the Switch and in no way, manner or form does it intend to judge the Switch's target audience or the Bayonetta or Mario franchises.

You need another 4 or 5 question marks in the thread title.

:)

The desire is there, if not the opportunity.

I'd hope so, really enjoyed the previous Bayonetta games!

Wondering if it'll really be a Switch exclusive as many think though, i'm doubtful that it sold as well on Wii U to make Nintendo care to fund a 3rd entry. May be wrong though, ~750k certainly isn't bad and it's likely the Switch will have a bigger install-base for it to sell better.

This would definitely factor in to when I purchased one. Great news, I hope it's true!

Since Bayo2 was on Wii U it's likely to see it coming for the Switch.

PS4 got Nier from PG so it'd be nice to spread the love.

Would be neat if it came to Nintendo again, for sure

Bayonetta + NMH could be enough to make me bite on the Switch.

"If that opportunity ever came up to make Bayonetta 3"

That's the key. As far as I know, Sega still owns the IP. That means the decision would have to either come from Sega or Platinum would have to find outside funding once more with Sega's approval.

Would the sales of Bayonetta 2 change Sega's mind about the franchise? Hard to imagine.

Would Nintendo want to fund another Bayonetta? Perhaps. That being said, my own belief is that they got a very sweet deal with Bayonetta 2 because a lot of the work had already been done. I think Sega just wanted to get something out of what they had already invested and Nintendo likely wasn't on the hook for the full cost of the game.

What about Sony/Microsoft? Hard to imagine Microsoft going back to Platinum but it's possible. Sony would probably want to own the IP, so that might be out.

The game might get made but it looks like it has a lot of hurdles to clear.
