wait, wasn't Nier a PS4/PC exclusive ? didn't Platinum have some kind of deal with Sony ?

To not release it on Xbox One perhaps, but appearently nothing involving the Switch. Although it remains to be seen if this game would even catch on with the Nintendo audience.

Well if they manage to get a quick port done ,possibly running at 720p/60fps, and put it out say before July they could sell quite well since there aren't that many hack n slash planned for the system at the moment, it would also be in Platinum's interest to build an Hack n Slash fanbase on Switch since Bayo 3 will likely appear on the system...

Technically every Japanese game could be ported to Switch (the only exceptions might be MGS V and FF XV).

Didn't MGS have 360/PS3 versions, that could be polished up to port.

Also the Switch did move forward graphically, it's not impossible the device is close enough to the other two that it's not an issue.

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

""From our perspective in Platinum Games, if Square Enix pays us to do it, we'll make you a version for the Switch, we'll make you a version for the Super Nintendo if you want - anything you ask for," Taura responded."

That is just more "we are willing to do whatever they want". It isn't about "being open" to it - it is saying "if they pay us, we will make it".

That is as generic as it gets.

The fact they are entertaining the idea, even vaguely, is a good sign.

They should just make Bayonetta 3. No reason for a port of this.

A port

  • Would attract fans of the genre to ensure Bayonetta 3 sells well
  • Tests the waters for what Nintendo HS fans like to better Bayonetta 3
  • Earn them money to develop the game even better
  • Ensure that the system has even more of a chance of staying strong to the point Bayonetta 3 is released
  • Restablish confidence in Nintenatinum fans Star Fox Zero might have damaged

So people will just skip the PS4 version because the Switch gets it? Maybe release Bayonetta 3 first, then port Nier Automata. Nintendo would be paying for Bayonetta 3 anyway.

Would love to see this game on Switch for sure.

Will probably just get the PS4 version tho, since I'm not expecting it to happen tbh.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

That would be pretty good, the more games the better plus nier looks great.

Why not MGS V?

Yeah I much rather they spend time on Bayonetta 3.

That way I get Nier Automata, AND Bayonetta 3. Instead of Nier.. and Nier.

Plus Bayonetta 3 will be an exclusive. That is far more beneficial than a late-port release.

A late port on a handheld system is different enough from a late port on another console it might not be so bad, and again if they port it wouldn't even take away from Platinum doing work.

"Hey Tantalus, here's money from Square. Port this to the Switch."

Ports rarely eat up the originater's efforts.
