Forums - Nintendo - Will Wii U games be massively ported to Switch?

so far they have announced

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (enhanced port)
Splatoon 2 (sequel using the same engine, some returning features)
Lego City: Undercover (enhanced port, now multiplatform)
Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition (port, unknown extra features)

i think after that we can expect a Smash Bros port and possibly a Super Mario Maker port. anything after that would be a bit too much.

Maybe, but then people clearly didn't want to play those games otherwise they would have sold more in the 1st place. Look at Mk8 it sold amazing because that's a game people wanted. I think nintendo probably realise now they need four things for success. Mario Kart, 3d Mario, mature zelda and Pokemon. Add splatoon and smash too, so call it 6.

Don't forget Animal crossing, that's an A tier Nintendo franchise now.

I hope so. Im all about ports. Every old game should be ported to the newest system. It just add variety and accesibility.

I think so, since Switch wont get that much third party support, they will have to port every game they can from WiiU to add value to Switch.

I mean, the more you look at Splatoon 2, the more differences you see.  No super weapons return, all the weapons have new meshes, they seem to have adjusted, improved, and added some effects, there's a new singleplayer.  So I would just remove Splatoon from that list.  And Rayman Legends is a Ubisoft port.  So Nintendo only has a hand in 2 ports.  I have doubts on Smash and Mario maker.  Smash because I think they will focus on Smash 5 and Mario Maker because it won't be nearly as elegant as it was on Wii U.

I don't think so and hope not

Rather get new games rather than just enhanced ports

I'm sure they will. This is already the gen of the remaster and rerelease after all so it's the perfect time to get away with what would've been balked at in my day. Sigh

i don't mind as such especially if it helps these games find a larger audience. Makes good business sense at least for the first year or so.

i see your point with Splatoon 2, although it can still be debated a bit. and yes Rayman is a third party game, but so is Lego City. my main point is that these are games which are highlights of the Wii U's library that are being ported.

and for Smash Bros, i think its too early for 5. there was a 7 year gap inbetween Melee and Brawl, and a 6 year gap inbetween Brawl and 4. it would make more sense to just enhance what they have already. they could just call Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch, but it would still be in the realm of Smash 4.

Bayo2 is a must if they port games to the Switch

Seems like they might use re-releases to fill gaps in the year where there isn't a lot happening, its already clear nintendo needs to sell before third party are going to join the switch. They need games and they will be, once again, the main provider. Im sure we will see plenty of old games from every system, from NES to WiiU being released.
