I doubt Sony made that much profit. 

I'm sure Sony made more. Nintendo only had an operating income of $232M over the past 9 months. They made over $500M in profit over the past 9 months but that's mostly because they sold their stake in the football team so it's a one time thing.

We'll know in a few days how well the gaming division of Sony did.

$568M was from the third quarter only. 

But.... that's one game?

I'm sure ps4 software eclipsed all Nintendo software by a very large margin.

I'm shocked

Playstation the clear winner.  Hardware and software sales were colossal.  

I'd actually give Nintendo 2nd.  3DS hardware and software including pokemon the reason.  

Microsoft 3Rd. 

Sony won - It was never really in question who would win, but surprise massive success and attach rate of FF15 on PS4 and continued strong sale worldwide. Performance of PS4 Pro is the only thing that falter in Sony's dominating Holiday season. PS4 Uncharted 4 bundle was the best selling item around.

Microsoft strong second place - Probably the best Holiday lineup of the three, Gears of wars 4 & Dead rising 4 combine with all the 3rd party games. That boxing day - Xbox One S Gears of War and Halo Special Edition Bundle.

Nintendo distant last - In order to participate you need to have a little of something for everyone. Nintendo had a great Pokemon game and a decent Mario Maker port to 3ds but Nintendo suffered from having very low stocks of 3DS. Furthermore, on WiiU it was pretty much just Paper Mario and it was not one of the good offering.

how many of those ps4 games where first party for the price of pokemon and for the low development cost of pokemon.

100% nintendo gets more money for 21m sales from mostly just first party at full price compared to watch dogs 2 call of duty and battlefield sales give sony money.

Sony defenitly won this one the PS4 and Sony's exclusives did very well. With TLOU Remaster teaching 5 million Uncharted 4 reaching over 8.5 million and Ratchet and Clank reaching the two million mark. PS4 software sales also hit the 400 million mark. Nintendo did very well with the 3DS because pokemon but Wii U is really very very dead. MS did good I guess nothing spectacular though.
