Forums - Nintendo - Is Nintendo's online service almost certain to cost $50 a year?

I think it'll start off low since Nintendo has a bad reputation with their online services and have to build consumer trust. Once people become comfortable and satisfied with what they're offering, they'll probably raise the price to something closer to the competition. Even then, I don't see Nintendo matching Sony or Microsoft dollar for dollar -- unless they know they can get away with it.

I feel like it's too hard to predict what Nintendo's going to do. Usually when people try to guess things, they end up doing the complete opposite thing, for better or worse. Hopefully it will be cheaper, but considering it's Nintendo, you can never be too sure...

hoping for $29 per year at the most.

If it is $50, it will be unlikely to provide stability/performance that matches it's competition. Let's say it does though. For fun. Cough. It still offers a hilariously limp "free game" selection by comparison, and also requires a smartphone to do things I could do on the original Xbox almost 15 years ago. From what's been shown, it should still be free. Not a good offering at all.

They're doing this solely to bleed extra money out of us now that they know they can, so $50-$60 should be expected as that's the amount they know we're willing to pay.

$20 is acceptable. Asking $50 is too much considering how much the competition offers at that price point.

Sigh. Still people saying you only get to keep the game for one month. I read it as the game is available for one month, same as PSN

The wording definitely suggests it'll only be available to play for that month to me.

Nintendo hasn't offered any rebuttal to that statement.

"Subscribers will get to download and play a Nintendo Entertainment System™ (NES) or Super Nintendo Entertainment System™ (Super NES) game (with newly-added online play) for free for a month."

Cut out the nonesense in the middle and you get this. "Subscribers will get to download and play a game for free for a month."

"Play" is included in the "For a month" statement, not just download. Besides if it was yours to keep you should be able to also download it outside of that month, so the statement makes zero sense. If you could keep it it'd just be.

"You get a free nes/snes game each month."

I hope not, but does look more to be the case
