Forums - Gaming Discussion - Microsoft Might Have Just Won the Next Gen (Trade Tariff)

Ehh... the topic headline had nothing to do with OP.

This is all so stupid. USA will force companies to produce in USA (especially car manufacturers) which may create jobs in USA but also increase prices and other countries will react to that against USA so that in the end all will just fuck each other and over the long run, nobody will gain from it.

But hey, it will work a few years and that's enough for Trump to praise how much he did for America. Same with less regulations if it comes to environment protection and stuff like that. It may help the industry for some years but surely not our descendants in the future.

Actually, protectionism is used way too little these days. The whole idea in protectionism is to pay the social bills of those who are unemployed because of the cheap imports, to maintain the welfare of the country. The options you have are either to make more debt to pay the social bill or cut down peoples welfare. What Trump appears to be doing is try to stop the money flowing abroad to make it possible for the US economy to grow again. Also, the trade tafiffs are typically supposed to loosen after the market stabilises and starts to grow.

Switch, Xbox One, Playstation are all made outsides of america.

This wouldnt win the xbox a gen (in the us).

It would make all consoles more expensive (next gen) which means the USA will become less relevant to console gameing in the future if it comes to pass.

Actually, it's not so much where it's manufactured, but more so where it's sold from.  I think that's the most common misconception.  The X-box One is manufactured in China, but it's still an American product since its parent company is an American company.  That's where it becomes an import to other countries regardlesss of where it's manufactured.

#1 It's 100% about where it's manufactured

#2 Tarifs go both ways. If the orange guy thinks he can add tarifs to products made in other countries, guess what happens in those other countries... they impose tarifs as well

#3 Microsoft is a multinational corporation, it's about as American as Sony is. There's no patriotism when it comes to business
