No they haven't.  But you cannot show a special edition and not sell the special edition.   And yes, many trailers are shown in higher resolutions, with AA, etc...but not a different version of the game.

Of course not.  But what they did show was the special edition of the game.  You cannot show a different version of a game.

Yes trailer shows better visuals, now do you even knw what the special edition does to the original game?

It's more than visuals if that's what you want to argue, SSE utilizes a more up to date engine that optimizes the game better and also brings mods to console versions, it also has the 2GB memory limit removed due to the new engine which caused issues with mods. Visuals are only part of the package.

It's going to be whatever the Switch is capable of which is a 1ghz 64bit arm quad core processor of about 19,000 mips, 150 gflops approx gpu and 25.6GB/s memory bandwidth stored on a 8GB (64Gb) or 16GB (128Gb) cartridge.

Realistically its going to look similar to xbox 360 detail levels with perhaps a few more graphic effects thanks to its later nividia maxwell architecture. It wouldn't surprise me if its just the basic skyrim game because that would allow for a smaller cheaper cartridge. I think the selling point is playing Skyrim on a portable rather than having any chance of competing with pc, ps4 or xbone on a technical level.

It reads like the basic game on nintendo's own page.

No doubt it will use the very latest engine and switch compatible assets though.

It wouldn't surprise me if the game renders below the 720p resolution of the portable screen at 540p to maintain frame rate and improve graphics and then does an easy double scaling to 1080p when docked.

I'm not convinced Bethedsa will do that decent a job on this and by the time it comes out Switch may already be on the rails and destined a minor format. Skyrim is cpu and gpu intensive and will surely be a game that lasts the minimum 2.5hrs battery life too. Still better than my laptop though that probably lasts only 1.75hrs with skyrim yet can last 5-6hrs with light use. However I wonder if there will be some level of rejection of short runtime games on Switch. I would never find 2.5hrs practical as a portable in the same way I wouldn't use my laptop for portable gaming. I often play DS games on my 3DS just because I know I will get long battery life if I'm travelling. Nowadays I use my phone and a small energy bank that can give me about 8hrs gaming without problem and has a high quality 1080p OLED display.

Special edition on the TV. 360 version on the go would be a winning compromise in my book.

Bad port? Sound uncharacteristic of Bethesda. I doubt they want to step into late, broken port biz on Nintendo consoles.

Then again Skyrim already comes loaded with bugs - so who cares?

Keep in mind Switch has an ARM architecture that's specifically optimized for gaming.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

I know exactly what version of Skyrim Nintendo fans are getting. We are getting the Switch version. The only version that matters.

Hey! They got SONY on my amiibo! Wait a minute. Two great gaming tastes that game great together!

I do.  And?

Why would you need to make another bullshots trailer (shows better visual) when you already have a product that does the same thing???

We're just talking abt the trailer and what you can judge from it. Sadly, trailer often lies (especially the announcement one). I wouldnt believe anything until there's a hands on

Wow, that's great news. Not sure why Nintendo's page for the game is so different though. 31st Dec is a long time away I wonder what state of the development the game is in now especially as a conversion.

Indeed. As others wrote, HW shouldn't be a problem to run mods, although those that enhance very much graphics won't probably run at the highest possible settings, and while there won't be any problem at all with official mods, the only problem could be console policies to add unofficial mods after purchase, but if Ninty policies aren't too restrictive or if Bethesda is willing to manage the legal side with Ninty, checking and providing users mods through its official channels, then there should be no problem. I guess anyway that adding mods from unofficial channels won't be as easy as on PC, if it will even be possible.

Yeah... I don't trust that. The source was a Switch page for it on best buy that's since been removed. A Page which had the exact description copied and pasted from the ps4/xbo pages. This doesn't mean anything. They were simply getting the Switch page ready and copied the description from the other consoles page, it's not confirmation either way.

Here's the PS4 page: Word for word the same as what's quoted in the article.

The listing for Skyrim on Nintendo Switch at Best Buy Canada states that the version is the  Special Edition which featured recently on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The interesting thing about this is that it includes PC-like mod support. Whether this particular listing has just been copy and pasted from the PlayStation 4 and Xbox versions is unclear as we know very little about the Nintendo Switch version, other than it’s confirmed for the platform. Here’s the product description:

  • This Special Edition of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has been remastered and enhanced for the current generation of home consoles
  • Visual and graphical enhancements include remastered game art, effects, volumetric god rays, dynamic depth of field, screen-space reflections, and more
  • The Special Edition also brings PC-like mod support to the game, so you can continually refresh your experience with new quests, environments, characters, dialogue, armour, and weapons
