| GoOnKid said: Well yeah, you have a very strong point with FIFA and I fully agree with you on this. Playing FIFA on the go could be big. FIFA did 630k on the Vita and around 1.3m on the PSP, which are quite hot numbers (sadly, the 3DS numbers are lower despite the bigger userbase compared to the Vita). I also think that FIFA is THE key mainstream game ever, even more than a GTA could be. But aside from that, there probably won't be any more mainstream games coming from EA, at least that's what I think. And I don't think that's bad. I believe third parties can be very succesful on the Switch, but just not with their mainstream games. I believe a custom game that fits the Switch could do much better than a Battlefield, for example. I'm probably going to get much hate for this but from what I can see, third parties only flourish on the other two platforms because Sony and MS let them flourish on purpose by reducing their own supply of games. Therefore, third parties are happy with high sales while the manufacturers are happy wth higher hardware sales and on top of that reduced internal costs as a nice bonus. Win win. But Nintendo is different, they follow their own strategy which is widening their audience in order to gain access to more people who they can show their iconic mascots to. Third parties have to accept the strong competition by Nintendo when they release their games on a Nintendo platform. I don't think Nintendo will ever reduce their games amount or quality so that third parties have a stage to shine. This might sound strange at first, but that's exactly what Sony and MS did after both of them closed some studios recently and concentrated their efforts to a small selection of strong going IPs. So to sum it up, I don't think Nintendo wants to have m-rated mainstream games from third parties. That's not a part of their strategy. |
Custom games? Perhaps. Probably even. I don't disagree. Keep in mind however, the Wii U era of customized games and remember the uproar over those specific games being exclusive. Though don't dwell on that. It is neither here or there.
Whether you get hate or not is irrelavent because in regards to third party and first party delivery, however, you are wrong. Take a moment to reflect on this generation. Yes Sony, is towering over MS due to power among other things, but it is also an exclusive issue. Look at the demand and frustration on whether or not a game is exclusive or timed exclusive. Look at the exclusives each company is getting: TitanFall, SFV etc. All well and seemingly dand because these are third party games. Take a look at their first party: Knack, Uncharted 4, TLG, Halo, Gears, Forza, Recore. There is a more than one distinct reason why Sony is on top and it is primarily that they are able to deliver more first party higher quality games. Many sites and forums are touting Uncharted 4 as their goty. Third parties aren't going to drop support over this. They see it as an oppertunity. The see a high rated game selling incredibly well, and with that a strong idea of what the market desires. MS is currently facing a large amount of criticism over the dearth of first party games, especially since Scalebound. Phil Spencer has also went on record saying he their first party is lacking and they want to fix it. Lack of faith means less purchases of the system and less faith. Sure for the most, part they make less pronunced first party games than Nintendo, but some of the first party games they do sell tend to do incredibly well. Uncharted 4, again, being a shining example.
Let me put it another way. They have more time to develop the first party games without a fear of droughts. Remember Mario Tennis for Wii U? It didn't reflect the amount of content expected from the Mario Tennis game. It functioned flawlessly, but the lack content showed that they rushed it out. Nintendo probably would have loved to invest more time into the game and third parties would have helped. Third parties aren't afraid of Nintendo game competition, Uncharted 4 is probably the best competition atm and that won't hurt them. However, they drop support, in relation to competition, because they recognize Nintendo gamers, by a huge margin, buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games. There is a thread about the Titanfall 2 dev. Yes he is throwing stones from a glass house, that is irrelavent to my point. Nintendo fans there didn't even care whether or not it even came. Its a high quality, high rated game. That should draw them in not that it flopped. Yes, that may not be the reason TitanFall 2 isn't coming, but that reaction is a clear indicatorof why third parties understandably are cautious in that regard. Again, not saying Third Parties are blameless saints. Mass Effect 3, case in point. It is simply important to recognize it shouldn't be about being fixation to believe competing with third parties is the reason for less games on PS and X1 as opposed to Nintendo.
