Didn't you make a thread more or less just like this last night?

1000 on an easy game is the same as 1000 on a hard game. Anyway Oblivion, BioShock and Mass Effect take ages to get all the points. I do not have XBox Live. The concept of paying for a service puts me off entirely. The PS3 is free online. I prefer single player as opposed to online. Losing online would screw with my mind and make me angry

I made some other threads but nothing regarding XBox 360 achievements.

While I will often try and get achievements in a game I buy I would NEVER EVER buy/rent a game purely for achievements. That just seems like a waste.

Personally though I always look at % completion not score to see how good someone is at games. For example a friend of mine has a gamerscore of around 30.5k compared to my 14.35K. However my score is out of a possible 17450. Whereas his is out of 52405. I mean anyone can have a high gamerscore, just play a huge amount of games. Having a high % is really difficult. There are some games where I will never ever make 100% like DoA4. And funnily you mention Kameo as an easy achievement game. You can get 600 incredibly easily, 650 easy, 700easy, 1000 insanely tough.

I mean if someone has 1000 in TMNT and another person has 800 in DoA4 then I know who the better gamer is.

I do really love achievements though. The fact I can just look at someones profile and get a good idea of what type of gamer they are is great. A lot of games but low scores in them? Probably a hardcore gamer who either isn't very good or gets bored quickly. Few games with low scores, a casual gamer. High scores in lots of shooters, good twitch player etc etc. 1000/1000 in DoA:XBV2? Probably has a sore wrist.

Yeah, absolutely, I find NO reason to get or rent a game simply for gamer score.

I personally dislike that the achievements show % completion of total possible score from the games you have played. Reason being is that I like to rent games before deciding if I want to get it or not. So I have a huge possible Gamer Score showing, simply because I have all these games on there that I'll never get because I rented the game and decided it's not worth buying.

Uhm, yeah 1000 GS is 1000 GS, no matter where you get it. But the difficulty in getting the Gamer Score varies greatly from game to game. And it's the difficulty in getting those scores that matter more to me. So, hence my belief that the total GS means nothing, but individual achievements or game, matter much more.

I own PS3/360 and absolutely hate achievements and what they stand for. I really can't see why anyone would care what their score is.

Or what they stand for? Mind explaining a bit more? I find that they give me more value out of a game. I am very goal oriented. I love trying to meet all the challenges given forth in a game by each achievement. Some games the achievements are pretty useless and not much effort is put into them though, that is true. But I love trying to get "two for on" or "Steppin Razor" or such on Halo 3. They can be tough to get, and it's a nice sense of accomplishment to have obtained them. Again, the score overall I don't care about, it depends on the individual game.

I mean the things that achievements are designed to do to make people boost their score - playing "easy" games, playing games they don't like, playing games for longer than they would usually etc; all in an attempt to gain bragging rights on internet forums.

It seems so contrived to me.

people some games are impossible to get all 1000 points and require insane amount of time to be spent on the game. Quake 4 for example has unrealistic achievements, some games require you to get to number one ranking online-impossible, because you have to be one of the first people to get the game.

80% to 90% completion of achievement points in hard games is a reasonable effort.

game sharks can put in achievements that you can not earn and save you time

PS3 is my primary console, because it's the best console there is. The others aren't as good, IMO.
