Forums - Gaming - Why is the Nintendo fanbase so emotionally charged?

Loll its every fanbase. Specially considering when the Ps4 Pro came out, quite a few of the Sony fans were trying to make the PS4 Pro seem like this $1000 PC equivalent by making threads with tons of miss information.

Stuff like this happens everytime a new hardware comes out and it happens with every fanbase. When Scorpio comes out, it will happen again!

So we're just using this thread to troll Nintendo and its fans?

This is really disappointing. We're a community of video game lovers and yet we take every opportunity to form ranks and attack "the other." Maybe we can try to find common ground instead of slandering each other? Maybe we can support each other instead of a distant corporation that cares little for our wellbeing?

I'm a Nintendo fan but I think we can have some honest discussion of the community. The OP's point is not without merit.

This is just an excuse to troll with impunity, Soundwave. All fanatics are unreasonable. It's not exclusive to Nintendo fans. I could pick out dozens of posts to try to prove that Xbox fans are insecure, for example, or Sony fans are jealous. But I wouldn't because it's not a productive topic.

It's a little frustrating as an ex-Nintendo fan. I really, really want the Switch to be a return to form, something I can gladly invest in and support, but things are looking very WiiU-like. But if you say anything critical of Nintendo, you obviously don't like competition, don't appreciate the right games or right aspects of games, or outright hate this one company. Nintendo is out of touch, and I don't think the vocal fanbase is helping.

Well, one day, it's Microsoft for cancelling Scalebound, the other day, it's Nintendo for a questionnable event about the Switch and probably another day when Sony's gonna fucked up badly too in the eyes of our community ...

It just never ends :/

The negativity and partisanship is suffocating. There's enough conflict and bullshit in the real world. I've no interest in the neverending console war that folks are waging every day on this site.

By the way, there are plenty of guys on this forum who constantly post threads with negative news regarding Nintendo, almost on a weekly or even daily level, even though they don't even own a Nintendo console. You don't see Nintendo fans constantly posting threads with negative news regarding Sony. So I really wonder how you got the impression that you did.

Fourth, this site is heavily Sony fan visited. Thus Nintendo fans are less and have to be more active/louder to be seen/heard.

Last I recall every poll seemed to show the Sony and Nintendo fans at the same level or Nintendo slightly higher but not notably.  Do you have something that shows that as incorrect?

I think my OP was misinterpreted; this definitely wasn't an attack on Nintendo fans as much as it is some of their attitudes in general.  I'm not just referring to the "fanboys" but also the people who criticize them in a sense where Nintendo is expected to do them right all the time and not make mistakes.

I remember after E3 2015 people were making declarations that they would no longer buy Nintendo products.  Farcical garbage like this is what I'm referring to.

Seriously, the level of irrationality for a given fanbase is related to how pressured they feel. The worse a company is doing, the more its fans become defensive and lash out. That is what happens when someone attaches their ego to a company.

I remember some Sony fans acting this way when the PS3 launched and took a ton of criticism over the price. I remember some fans of the original Xbox being insufferable and dogging the PS2 at every turn. I certainly remember how some Nintendo fans acted soon after it became obvious the Wii U wasn't going to be another Wii.

The fans who are the most emotionally invested turn into powder-kegs. They're like wounded animals, snapping at anyone who comes near.

Are you new to console launches? They provoke discussion, emotion, reaction no matter what company its from. To suggest that its exclusive to Nintendo and its fans is pretty disingenuous and opportunistic.

I can guarantee you that the launch of the Xbox Scorpio later this year will incite a lot of emotions and reactions in people, and we've already seen the commotion surrounding the launch of the PS4 Pro late last year. It's better that we realize that overall, the fanbases aren't that different (for better or worse), rather than pointing fingers at each other.

Locking.
