Forums - Gaming - Why is the Nintendo fanbase so emotionally charged?

...or is this a phenomenon across all console fanbases?  I don't know why people can't seem to understand that Nintendo is a business first and formost and that they do not care about their individual customers, aside from their potential sales.  What's ironic is that I see more grounded and balanced feedback of the Switch from Sony/Microsoft fans who may or may not actually purchase the system.  When I look at Nintendo fans, however, it almost seems as if these people feel personally harmed when Nintendo screws up in some fashion, and honestly it's kinda cringey to see.

Nintendo games are some of the best in the industry, and I'm gonna buy whatever hardware their games may end up on, but I'm seriously considering distancing myself from the Nintendo fanbase as a whole.  People have an unhealthy emotional attatchment to this company, and it's honestly draining to have to see all of this play out again and again.

I dunno honestly. All fanbases are emotional to some degree I guess, but Nintendo has always been a little crazed in that regard.

I remember even in the 90s if you were a Nintendo fan and you "dared" to like games with a story or cinematics or CD music you were labelled a heretic, lol, it's only when Nintendo eventually embraces those things that suddenly "it's ok", and not only "ok", but the greatest thing ever that's going to make Nintendo no.1 again.

IE:

Ask in 1998 - CD-ROM SUCKS! If I have even 3 seconds loading in a game, I will DIEEEE! And anyone who likes it isn't a Nintendo fan

Ask in 2001 - Nintendo got optical discs BABEEEEE! SUCK IT! GAmeCube gonna bez no.1!!!

Ask in 1997 - 64-bits! YAH! Silicon Graphics like Jurassic Park!! Sony and Sega aren't even close with their piddly 32-bit machines!

Ask in 2007 - Graphics don't matter! It's all about losing weight with your console!

They get trolled more than just about anyone in my experience... people love to dance on Nintendo's prematurely-dug-grave and have been doing so for about fifteen years lol

Probably because Nintendo had an important influence in their childhood. I disagree with the notion that it's the only fanbase "emotionally charged", though.

The plastics they use to manufacture amiibo use some questionable chemicals?

Hey! They got SONY on my amiibo! Wait a minute. Two great gaming tastes that game great together!

Well on this site there's definately alot of anti nintendo feelings I know that. For example when any new nintendo news is announced theres always the same users with clear sony/xbox avatars flinging shit around. Not sure if Nintendo fans do the same cos I rarely go into Sony or xbox threads.

You're probably right I never quite thought of it that way, but Nintendo is "personal" because it's like a childhood friend, so seeing it insulted or not doing well evokes an emotional response from some.

It's quite simple it's all or nothing with the Nintendo fanbase and it's usually all. If you don't agree well than you appearently aren't a Nintendo fan. I am not a Nintendo fan anymore and I even bought a Wii U. I find the blind fate in Nintendo fascinating since they didn't do much to earn it lately. I prefer to be even skeptical of every company I didn't buy a Vita and I think Sony fucked up on that as with PSVR being lacklustre. But calling Wii U a fuck up for Nintendo and you can expect a shitload of butthurt comments like the few games that released on it where great and better than other AAA franchises.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Your talking about a fanbase that just got a new console announced, and it comes out in less than 2 months.
Secondly, as someone pointed out. Nintendo fans have been hearing about their ultimate demise for over decade.
Thirdly, Nintendo fans have been bullied for liking childish games.
Fourth, this site is heavily Sony fan visited. Thus Nintendo fans are less and have to be more active/louder to be seen/heard.

AHHAAHAHAHAHHA trust me every fanbase is

Xbox with there best online experience and superior controller over DS4 and superior exclusive games over PS4.

Sony fanbase arogant with there Best exclusive games (which i think they have) best console and variety but ask them to name 10 best ps exclusives first will be Uncharted and Last of US rest of them they don't even know or they will find them online and tell you.

PC fanboys they think they have the best games (which suck tbh)even thought they don't own them Physically or Digital with so much of that Drm it's not even funny.
"PC master race" even though on Steam 50% of users have dual core Cpu and rest have about the power of Pro but whatever.

Nintendo i haven't seen a lot of them, wii U damaged them very hard so they were silent in a long while but now with switch every game ever made must be ported to Switch and oh yeah they still think switch is powerful as PS4.
