Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Switch Graphics! Don’t give up on them just yet.

Graphics graphics graphics.... is it all that gamers today want?
Some gamers should just stop gaming and watch movies, if all they want are graphics...

That said, I care a lot more about art style than resolution. The quality of what I´ve seen in this generation - Switch included - regarding resolution, detail etc. is more than enough for me to have fun. And, to be frank, high-detailed, realistic graphics don´t impress me no more.

Art Style, gameplay and a good soundtrack is what really matters to me. If Switch games can deliver that, then I´ll be fine with that.

All these hundreds of pages of discussions for absolutely nothing. I know hardcore gamers feel entitled enough to think every console on the market should exclusively cater to their needs but this console was not made for you guys! This is a console for people like me who love to play games with others locally. You know, the 100 million people who bought a Wii for its multiplayer games like Wii Sports (Resort), Wii Play, Mario Kart, etc. We are still here and we are very much interested in another Wii-like console.

Believe it or not the "casuals" (which includes me and my friends I guess even though they play DOTA and I worked for a gaming website in the past) do not see a smartphone as a replacement for the Wii. A smartphone is not a big screen you play on with a bunch of people. Mobile gaming is not social and does not bring people together. A Wii-like console does.

Again: This console was not made for you guys. So stop looking at it from a hardcore gamer perspective.

If people are spending hundreds of dollars on it, I say they can look at it from whatever perspective they effin want.

1st Switch game that will arrive will of course be mostly Wii U build and definatly not using full power of new hardware, so there will not be big or noticeable difference, but for instance even Mario Odyssey is still game in development looks better than all Wii U games.

Yeah, IF they are. May grumbles are not even spending anything

I'm not talking about the people who will buy the console. I'm talking about those who were not interested in the console to begin with or wanted it to play ports of PS4 /XBox One games. Those people who act as if the console doesn't have any value to customers. Because the Switch does offer a great value but it wasn't designed for the hardcore gamers.

Haters gonna hate. In the same way many fans have waited long for this reveal hoping for someting amazing, there are just as many who just wanted to see Nintendo fail.

Thanks! That's exactly the point: Some products are not designed with us as their target audience in mind. Instead of assuming every product should be made for ourselves we should just accept that other people like different products and see value in different things. And I'm not ciritising the Nintendo fans here by the way. I think some Nintendo fans got carried away, hoping Nintendo would produce a powerful console. But most fans now realize that a well-built, fun console that can play your games on the go and at home has more value to them than simply a graphical powerhouse. (And as a disclaimer: I don't know if the Switch will offer the things I just listed.)

I think the graphics are just fine. From my perspective the debate about resolution is a relative one and people expressing disappointment or 'concern' are looking at it from the point of view of 'mass appeal'. It's easy to simply (and to convenient) think of this as just another opportunity to knock a console some people have no interest in but I believe it's more to do with what sells a console in today's market. There are several bullet points most consoles require, one of them is a good online ecosystem, another is third party support and in house exclusives and the other is 'resolution'. With sites like DF and NX becoming more important to the savvy gamer, it's only natural that some people would have 'genuine' concern for the Switch in terms of mass market. We have to remember that 1080p TVs are now the norm and 4K is being pushed heavily and relatively speaking 700p/900p isn't going to hold up well for anyone who bought those TVs for those very reasons. BUT, like I said, I think the resolutions are fine and most Nintendo fans are not going to be interested in the spec side of things, they'll be interested in the franchises. Whether it pans out well in the long run is entirely relient on Nintendos ability to keep clear of the spec wars but in todays climate I think that's more or less impossible.

I hope that when they get a 10nm version of the Tegra X1, which should bring down power consumption hugely they add two new models to the Switch family

Although both the Wii and the Wii U had no die shrinks, isn't that so? I don't think Nintendo consoles ever did die shrinks, to be fair, except probably for the new SNES model. One would expect the New 3DS to be so as well, but it had a larger battery and a shorter life, so yeah, I don't think there was one here, even accounting for the extra juice of the new version.

I think the argument "the console wasn't made for you so stop complaining" is an extremely poor and short-sighted one and hopefully Nintendo themselves don't feel that way but over the years sadly it seems they are. That is because there are millions of people that probably share the similar story to me as in growing up on NES, SNES, and gamecube and have since not found a home with the company we loved. We talk about power, but people tend to forget those consoles I listed were often as powerful, if not the most powerful, consoles on the market. So you got both the Nintendo first party experience as well as many of the other major third parties. There is a huge fan base that wants to play their games but see tremendous value lacking in playing those games now with subpar tech and paying hundreds for a console that does nothing but only play those games. This was evident by the Wii U, basically a Nintendo only game console that died a horrible death. You can take those exact games produced for Wii U and if they supplemented a powerful console that got third party support and even basic online features and its probably outselling Xbox right now and seen as a success. Actually not probably I'm pretty damn sure about that.

So don't tell people that used to love this company that its not for us move on because that's how you get the Wii U. Its not like if you get better hardware you no longer get Zelda or certain art-styles. It means you get a Zelda game in 2017 in 1080p and 60 fps like you damn deserve and the community deserves. A game of Zelda's statue at 900p and 30 fps in 2017 is pathetic and fans who defend it are even worse.
