I doubt that Nintendo will drop in price soon. It has Nvidia hardware in it, and Nvidia can be expensive. And I also doubt that we will see a drop for the next 2-3 years in price. So... paying 300 $ now or later is the difference in playing earlier on or later. You have also to consider certain publishers, because they look at the installbase. The bigger it is, the more willing they are in developing games for the console. |
I think the price depends on how well it sells. Nintendo is basically all in with this move, and if it doesn't sell well, they will have to work quick. From what I saw at that reveal, I am expecting it to struggle at $299.99 after the initial wave of core Nintendo fans grab their units. I think it will require a price cut to succeed, and I think PS4/XBO will be $249.99 by E3, with $199.99 happening during Black Friday and December, putting even more pressure on them.
As for sales helping grab publishers, I completely get that. That is why I typically adopt platforms I support early. However, for something that I am only going to use for games, I just can't justify dropping money for it to sit around for 6 months while I wait for stuff to play. At least with other devices, I use them for masny non gaming tasks.
At any rate, this is a win for Nintendo, as far as I am concerned. I have not spent my own money on a Nintendo device since N64 and Gameboy Color. I got a Cube because I was interested and someone bought it for me. I got a Wii, because someone forced it on me, and I have never had a DS/3DS/WiiU.
Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.
