He doesn't feel people should get banned when numbers are so close. He considers them a statistical tie. He also feels that bans should be more for the use of punishment not currency.

Big drop for the Wii in NA. Nintendo needs to address production issues. There is a noticable trend of high sales followed by low sales the following week. Obviously supply constrained. Perhaps Nintendo are building up for the releases of MK and Wii Fit.

Good result for PS3 in others, I didn't expect that. I've noticed that the numbers have been adjusted again back to they were originally. Will be interesting to see if those figures can be maintained next week, although a drop is inevitable really.

 Well, what I DIDN'T like about it was the fact that he didn't stop it when the bet was FIRST started. 

 Stopping it now shows his lack of confidence on his own number, at least that's what it looks like. If I were ioi, I'd stick with my number even if it is not as accurate. Let people who were willing to bet take their own medicine .

@kingofwale: He said he didn't like banning people based because of ban bets, because it underminds the whole reasons for bans. I think he's stopping it now because it's getting completely out of hand. When I joined last year, I don't recall ban bets being really big (or maybe I didn't notice them), but in the last few months, the bets keep getting longer and more extreme. I mean, gebx ban was something like a week per person who bet against him? And leo-j was banned for a month because of a ban bet (then another month or something like that because of spamming). I'm sure he realizes (as we all do) that his numbers aren't 100% accurate, but neither are any other source for numbers, besides shipped numbers from the big three.

@stever - last time I checked (last night before bed) the Ps3 numbers were 128k now they are 134k (what he put the originally)

The timing of it is just too perfect to not raise any eyebrows. Yes, it is going to be a huge bet and can potentially raise doubt about accuracy of the numbers. In my opinion, this bet was supposed to be stopped in the very beginning (if ioi wants to do it), to stop it now is way too late.

@PooperScooper: yeah I think they were changed a little after they were put up. I believe they've been 134k all day today (at least for me, here in Eastern US).

@kingofwale: How often do you see ioi roaming around this site? Besides the occasional post on the forums, and the weekly updated numbers, sometimes it seems like he never gets on this site. It's not like he has too. I bet he sees enough of the numbers to have his fill. Possibly with the whole discussion of gebx ban bet he noticed it and realized that it was getting out of hand, which he then said he didn't want them anymore, not because he's afraid of the numbers being wrong (even though they are changed sometimes), but because he wants bans to be punishments.

And in any case, anything within 10% margins is a statistical tie, so one shouldn't be banned due to it being so close. And it's not like he doesn't have faith in his numbers, because it's not the numbers that are a problem, it's how close they are together.

I shall save my reply until April 12th, when NPD's number out. Personally I wouldn't be surprised if it shows PS3 once again outsells 360 for the 3 months in a row, and therefore shows VGC undertracks PS3 (comparing to 360) every month this year so far.

That's just me, you will probably claim that NPD is not accurate, (and other people will too), and we shall see.
