This was by far the most disappointing thing for me, I'm not going to buy Splatoon 2 because of that, sadly :(

Well, Microsoft started a trend.

I wish Sony and Nintendo didn't follow it. But if you're a business and you saw your competition doing it and the customers for the most part accepting it, you'd do it too. So I didn't blame Sony for it and I don't blame Nintendo for it now. Why should the competition get money for it and you don't right?

Still wish both Sony and Nintendo were free online from a customer stand point, but I understand.

If you want to blame anyone, blame Microsoft's fanbase. If they had revolted rather than accept it, Microsoft would have kept playing online free, and the other two competing platforms wouldn't have followed suit.

Microsoft pretty much exposed that there were enough people that are "slaves" to gaming that they could get away with it.

Sony and Microsoft have far supperior online compared to Nintendo. No one will want to pay for a service that is inferior.

That's a good AND true point. But look at it this way, now if they make people pay for it, They can't hide behind any excuses for being sub par anymore I'd assume

And thus, the end of console gaming for me. I've been playing since 1983 when I was just a tiny little kid, sitting in front of my parents TV, soaking up some Pitfall and E.T. I was right there in 1986 to see the rise of the NES all the way through to present times but alas, the journey ends.

Gaming has turned into a greedy cesspool. Yeah, it's always been a business, but that business has reached critical mass where we're getting so much less for so much more that I can't justify it anymore. How we have gone from paying $200.00 for one console every 6 years to $3/400.00+ every 3 years is beyond me. How we have gone from $40.00 for complete AAA games that are 100% tested and shipped with all DLC on disc to $60.00 games with 60% of the content, filled with bugs and required 20GB patches is beyond me. How we have gone from free online gameplay to all three charging... er... robbing us blind... is beyond me.

I truly am sad to see the day, but gaming has left me. It was a good run but, it's no longer something I recognize. It's calling itself the "game industry" but I don't see it as that. It's something else.

I'm out.

Megaton. Very damaging news too because bragging about free online would have been a big plus.

How is it damaging when Sony and Microsoft do the same damn thing? At least they're giving away a free month.

Yup thats the point for me, too. I have no problem paying for XBL/PSN but Nintendos really bad one!?!? No thanks. For free Nintendos service is ok but paid no way.

PS4 does that.It sucks sure, but unfortunaly this is the market.I mean, PS4 does this shitty practice.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Many having no idea what the online is like, decided to rate negatively considering it's Nintendo, having been fine paying for Xbox Live since 2006... smh

Really sucks, one of the most disappointing things for this presentation
