Forums - Microsoft - Phil Spencer - Talks about Scalebound and first party games "1st party internal studios are critical"

"...stop the company from taking risks. That's why I love xbox"

MS/Xbox has never struck me as risk takers, ever...Weeeell, apart from the colossal blunder that was the reveal of the Xbone, that truly was a real risk.

Never remember they making any real risk besides the one you mentioned... on IP for the OEMs I can only think of Sony making real risks all the time.

I think Phil has much less power than some people think, his desire might be that the Xbox brand had a bigger and more diverse 1st party portfolio like Sony and Nintendo, but the people who are truly calling the shots don´t seem interested.

In the 'Scalebound is cancelled' thread, I agree with Rol when he said that MS seems to be moving away from single player story driven games...in fact, a big part of the industry is and is instead going for multiplayer focused, 'games as a service' model (which I personally dislike)

Personally, as a console player and someone who doesn´t really enjoy multiplayer games that aren´t Smash Bros and Mario Kart, it´s a major part of my decision of sticking with a Playstation/Nintendo combo, as their 1st party strategy still focuses on a lot of primarily single player games.

Same here, I don't play MP unless it's couch colaborative, so I'll stick with Sony for the IPs I like and for Co-op I have to go Nintendo.

how about for once spencer walks the walk and doesnt just talk the talk. everything he says about first party is BS.

Because that would mean doing something more than just moving his mouth and we know he won't do it.

Everyone calling for the end of gears n halo. I'm sitting here thinking sure have the colition go back to that spy game, but please god don't take halo from me lol.

The new Halo and Gears suck though. Look at Master Chief in your profile pic - even hes depressed.

Maybe that's ur opinion. I'm not the biggest gears  fan anymore  but 4 is every bit as good as 3. It's not a buggy mess like 1 and 2 where. Halo 5 got a 84 or 85 metacritic despite franchise fatigue and a bad singleplayer why? Because it has a awesome multi. One of the best in the series.

Halo MCC will sell 5+ million copies(including digital)

halo 5 will sell 10 million copies(including digital)

x1 will pass ps4 in USA, and UK.

Poor Phil, it seems Xbox need to change , they need to separate from Microsoft. Microsoft has the budget but they doesn't spend it for Xbox Division solely . Or maybe they are not serious investing on consoles anymore. I have a hint that there will no future for Xbox, i want Xbox stay on Industry so the video games consoles market can live. SONY alone cannot sustain it. And Nintendo is focusing on Mobile.

Xbox 1st party is really in shambles right now. All of my motivators for getting an XBO are disappearing. It was always about the games, and Scorpio doesn't solve that problem in the least. If I just wanted a more powerful PS4, I'd invest in mid-level gaming PC.

Of course they could. As a matter of fact they re already doing it.

No more "Microsoft" would be a windfall. The hope for Nintendo to expand and investing more into existing and new franchises would be rekindled again. Not that i have high hopes that it could ever gappen, but... to see Nintendo go mobile is... painful.

And yes, they (MS) were never seriously invested in the console-business. They were serious about gaining a foothold in the business and implement Bills vision of a media center in the living room of US-american/western households. That ONE device to fulfill the needs of the customer hungry for entertainment.

Mission accomplished. To them this what counts.

Scalebound was shit and the partnership failed but they have lots of successes with other partnerships, in have no doubt they'll continue to enter them. Hopefully we get more Sunsets and Ori's than Scalebounds.

I'm with Platinum on this one. That's goes double if nier turns out well. Lord knows Microsoft cannot do anything for themselves and they do not own the sunset overdrive ip. The way the game sold as an exclusive they would be wise to go multiplatform with that gem of a franchise because i want to see a part two. If Microsoft was a proven developmental studio I would believe them but they aren't even on level with their competition but rather far beneath them.

Xbox first party has been a questionable mess since they entered the industry. It's never been on level with the competition. Nintendo was always great and Sony has always become progressively stronger as a first party (and at a scary rate too).

We've been over this in another thread already, for all the talk you do about how great Sony's first party output is compared to Microsoft's, Sony only has one or two more internally developed new IP's this gen than MS, and that's counting TLG, which is debatable as a new IP. I haven't checked the numbers but I would guess the numbers are about the same for moneyhatted games/partnerships as well, and plain old first party sequels. Either you're very very wrong the way you talk up and down about the two companies, or Sony has just been very very lazy this gen with their lead, pick one.

And I'm aware MS doesn't own the Sunset IP, after all Sony wanting control of the IP is the only reason the PS4 didn't get the game as an exclusive.

Scumbag Microsoft:
-Pays $2.5 billion for exclusive rights to Minecraft ... and makes it multiplatform
-Does not budget $ to complete already announced and advertised Xbox exclusives

Has Xbox ever cancelled or shut down this many games in such a short time? This past year seemed brutal.
