Although I have said that if you'd like to make a thread on the matter which goes into his politics, feel free to do so, infact that may actually be the better idea as it wouldn't limit what people can say.

Ehh, I'm over it.  Still though, if the poster is the problem, that should not become the problem of the commenters.

On the above comments, and with all due respect to John McCain:

Barney knew perfectly what he was doing when he posted that. It's no coincidence he created a thread like that which had an awkward line between politics and general.

Not sure where to post this. I'm guessing here.

There is a thread right now discussing the health of a prominent American politican. In that thread, the author posted this:

Consider this a warning, from this point on; moderations will be given to anyone posting politics in this thread.

So, how does that work? One makes a thread about a prominent politician, then threatens to mod anyone that talks about politics? That's ridiculous, in my opinion.

You can discuss the man but not the politics around the man.

That said - the thread sounds pointless. Discussing only the person will end in comments like "I feel sorry for him" and "wow three inch blood clot". There is little to discuss about him specifically.

So content wise how is that different from "yay I like this game" or "what's your favorite color" or "should X do this objectively good thing?" threads? The forum is full of pointless threads.

At least that thread has value as a news story.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Yeah but how can you make that thread political anyway? Any comment about his political leanings would result in an instant ban for being tactless.

Believe me, I tried very hard to come up with an appropriate political comment in that thread and nothing came up that wouldn't get me banned instantly.

You obviously didn't try very hard then did you?

There's all the posts that talked about politics yet weren't tactless and didn't insult or disrespect anyone. Not a single one of them deserves a ban either, even if the thread was put in the wrong section (yeah, a thread about a politician belongs in the politics section...)

Oh and for extra effect, one of those posts that mentions politics without being a dick about it was by StarOcean, and if he can do it then surely you can!

All of these comments put him in a positive light. There is no room in this thread for posts about how much harm he did while in office and how glad one is that he will soon not be in office anymore. Even just listing all of the stupid things he did and said in congress would be not allowed. This is not a discourse, this is just reading obituals.

I tried hard, but putting this man in a positive light is too hard for me because that would be a lie. And as one of the few people here I refuse to post lies. That's why I didn't post in there.

Well it's not hard to criticise him and at the same time show sympathy for him. Something like "I don't agree with some of the stuff he did such as x, but he doesn't deserve this". If you can't feel sympathy for someone, even if they're someone you don't like, well... that's your problem!

What if I post that sentence without that second part? The second part doesn't mean anything anyway.

In retrospect, I can understand why banning political discourse in a thread about a politician is strange, but I agreed with Bristow's intent. I'd love it if I can trust people to handle a thread like this without spreading hate...but the typical flow of political threads here has left me a bit jaded. There's a massive difference between disagreeing with one's politics and celebrating one's death, and I'd like to hold this forum to a higher standard than the Youtube comment section.

Of course, that means the thread is left with little to actually discuss, but I'd honestly say shallow positivity isn't the worst problem this forum could have.

Hmm, so we haven't gotten a moderator update since May

I've been here for a long time, and I've seen certain things get overlooked, and the most delicate things hit hard with criticism. Not to mention the many times rules get changed and tweaked without knowing about it. Ex:  Since when Antonio Banderas memes become bad?

All I'm saying is, communication can be a lot better in here, but if something happens again over something trivial then that'll be the last straw.

Expect overtime, because now the neighborhood watch is here.

I’m making this post to draw attention to the users on this site, to what in my opinion is admin abuse.
About two weeks ago, I’ve made a comment in a post in regards to John Mccain health. This is the link to the post, http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=230499&page=3#9 my comment is on the third page and it sounds like this : “He's a warmonger, just as bad as the Bush family, the Clinton's and Obama. I don't feel bad for him, karma is a bitch.” For that comment I’ve been banned for 14 days. A day ago, my ban has been lifted, so I’ve asked that specific admin, what I’ve did wrong and if he can show me how did I’ve violated this site policies.
His answer was: “Your comment about karma makes it clear that you think John McCain deserves to have brain cancer. This isn't an opinion...this is hate speech, and is a violation of rule 13, specifically "Moderators will look at overt discrimination very harshly. Blatant forms of racism, sexism, homophobia, or any other sort of hatred towards a group of people(s) will not be tolerated, and will be met with firm moderation." John McCain might not be a specific group, but wishing death upon a public figure is the kind of disgusting hatred we do not allow here. Disagreeing with someone's politics and celebrating their death are two entirely different things.
In addition, Bristow issued a warning to not attack the character of the person in question, which you ignored in order to make this post. Mod warnings aren't made lightly; ignoring them does come with consequences.”

1. It looks to me that this admin has changed the forum rules, and changed what “Blatant forms of racism, sexism, homophobia, or any other sort of hatred towards a group of people” means, just to have a reason to ban me. A person/ political figure is not a group of people, is just one person.

2. Furthermore, this admin chooses to misinterpreted my words. I didn’t say that I wish him death, I’ve said that he had it coming, in another words “what goes around, comes around"

3. I’ve seen here, users on this forum posting nasty comments about politicians, Trump, Clinton and how these politicians should die, and those users haven’t been banned. ..........

4. The warning that he’s talking about, was made a few comments down in to the post, my comment was made to replay the OP, the warning should have been made more visible. Even if I made a mistake, and I didn’t read a comment that was made 4 comments down, on a site that is full with adds and all sorts of avatars, I still don’t think that deserves a two weeks ban.

It sounds to me that the admin was more bothered by my OPINION on that public figure, and it decided to bend the rules of this site to have me banned.
