New Rule added to the Forum Rules (#10)

That's gonna go well if enforced on a regular basis. Let's cut straight to the meat of it. Is the example in the rule the kind of things that is for or is this just something to make it easier to go after certain people?

If you aren't someone who generalizes, you won't have anything to worry about. It's a very easy thing to avoid.

Alot of people generalise to some degree. The differences is on what. That's why I asked that question. Could you answer it?

You could take quickrick as an example

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

There's a particular kind of generalizing...

  • "All Nintendo fans say..."
  • "Gay people expect..."

That kind of stuff has become a significant problem. Now, if one says, "black people tend to get Sickle-Cell Anemia at a much higher rate", that's different. But saying, "black people are known to rob someone more than other races" is going to be an issue. Those are just some of the stark examples.

Bad second example, since with statistics that can be proven correct in which case it should be fine. Now if you say all black people are robbers

One can't know what all gay people expect. So it falls under that category.

"black people are known to rob someone more than other races" should be all black people otherwise you are using that specific example wrong

I don't follow his conversations that much. Different lanes most of the time. I'm okay with this rule just so long as alot of regulars aren't getting banned over it or I have to start sourcing every opinion.

lol There's data to back up those except the gay one and all nintendo fans say..... Hmm. I'm just trying to get an idea of what this rule is used for and how often.

That's definitely is a bad example. 😹

"All black people" and "black people" are both generalizations. Different from, "I know a black person who robbed someone", which is specific.

No they are not in your case of black people out of a 100 black people aslong as its more then other races the point stands.

In all black people it is 100 out of 100 black people

I point you to the post above. Provide me with useful statistic(s) that back up the claim that black people rob others at a higher rate than all other races. Otherwise, it is a statement that I would definitely moderate someone for.

I think we talk past each other all black people is the easy generalisation.

Just black people backed up with statistics is fine

I asked for multiple [hence the (s)] and I'd like to see something from 2018.

Thats impossible seeing as that would be available in 2019
