Forums - Microsoft - Project Scorpio Official Thread: New Video On Forza

Well, in the end, it sounds like a good console in specs, and better than the Pro for sure. It was overhyped to death though with all the Zen/Vega rumors. I see what Phil Spencer meant now in saying that if you don't have a 4k TV, buying this console isn't a priority. Still, definitely for those Xbox guys that wanted a more powerful Xbox One at least.

I can see the very customized hardware making things more expensive production wise, but I still expect them to eat the cost and sell it at $399. Just to try and "catch up" so to speak. Mainly in the home market.

It can hit 4K 60FPS on Forza while only using 66.19% of the GPU. Which means they still have all that extra power to do whatever they please with.

This seems powerful as fuck, really impressive. Now just have an amazing E3 showcase for new games and drop a $399 megaton (If they can manage to sell it at that price I mean) and I think Scorpio could be really huge for Microsoft.

The way Sony has been quiet about PS4 Pro sales tells me it not doing wonders anywhere in the world.

VR has not taken off either. So, I belive Sony will be repositioning their estrategy and narative in the next year, expecially focusing on their first party games.

For once, it seems Sony left Horizon to die and is not hyping up as much as it could. On my Youtube feed I only see videos about Zelda or Mass Effect.

So another interesting thing is that while Scorpio does have 12Gb of vram, for gaming, it can use 8Gb for games and 4gb is reserved for the OS.

Compared to the ps4 pro, out of the 8gb avaliable, the ps4 pro allows 5.5Gb for games and 2.5Gb is reserved for OS.

For anyone who values image quality to the degree i do, i'd say it's worth it even at $500. I wish Sony have followed a similar strategy for the Pro. I am overall happy with the Pro, i think it's well priced and the image quality bump is significant, but i'd happily have waited a year and paid an extra $100 for a more capable machine. Unfortunately the Scorpio isn't much use to me :(

For the average consumer, my guess is $450 should be the target. It's good hardware value at $500, but so is the Pro as $350. I can see plenty of people being willing to spend an extra $100 for a system marketed as "the most powerful ever", but $150 might be pushing it. If they can hit $400, the Scorpio is a strictly better value proposition hardware wise for even general gamers.

i very much value image quality. and a part of me agrees with you, waiting an extra year and proving an even better piece of hardware would have been better. but to me price does play a big role. personally i am very content with my base PS4, and have no plans to upgrade. ill just wait till PS5 and get it at launch.

but price plays a huge role here. its not like Sony couldnt have released a console this powerfull. heck, i think they could have done it last year as well. but if your console is 500$ and the XB1 and PS4 are 250$ by the time it releases, and they play the same games, it will be an even tougher sell. i agree, at 500$ the scorpio is great value. but i just cant see the market responding to a 500$ price tag. and i think MS will have problems with that.

i do think the scorpio will benefit the Xbox's brand perception as a whole though. having the most powerful console on the market and being able to market that is a good way to increase the value of your brand.

another thing to consider is VR, but after the release of PSVR, i doubt that will make any huge differences when it comes to mass market sales.

4k DVR capture. is probably where most of extra is set aside for.

I think MS are just playing it safe (for stuff like the dashboard and DVR). There's a limit to how far their RAM advantage can reasonably be utalized in multi-plats, so it's a logical strategy.

Do many people use that DVR feature?

lul what?

It sold 2.6m in two weeks. It's still in the top 20 on Amazon, Mass Effect has slipped way down. Right now, Horizon's legs is close to Zelda's. Won't last forever of course, but Horizon is doing great and your comment is bizarre

Yea that's probably true.
