Forums - Nintendo - Launch Zelda, Mario for Holiday

Makes sense in the sense that Zelda and Mario in the launch month would be overkill and could eat each others sales. So yeah, I agree.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Mario AND Zelda both being at launch would be incredible, but I have to agree that it'll probably be one or the other, as that's just better business. Especially if the Splatoon port or even the Mario Kart 8 port are at launch, too. Makes more sense to space them out each month or so. And I always assumed if Zelda was at launch, Mario would be a holiday title, but if Zelda is 'delayed' to June (which would hopefully be the latest), then I can see Mario at launch to make up for it. And then hopefully they have some other big games ready to reveal at E3 for holiday, like Retro's next game, or Animal Crossing, or yeah, Pokemon Stars even would be a big deal.

Upcoming Games To Get

Definite: Kirby Star Allies (Switch), Mario Tennis Aces (Switch), Fire Emblem (Switch), Yoshi (Switch), Pokemon (Switch), Kingdom Hearts 3 (PS4), Monster Hunter World (PS4)

Considering: Fe (Switch), Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (Switch), The World Ends With You (Switch), Ys VIII (Switch), Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition (PS4), Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Remix (PS4), The Last Guardian (PS4), Shadow of the Colossus HD (PS4), Anthem (PS4), Shenmue 3 (PS4), WiLD (PS4)

I still wanna believe Animal Crossing will release this year, so between that and Zelda, Mario, n Pokemon, I agree that only one of the big guns need to be available day 1 provided there's other games alongside it like the Wii U ports. I think one on launch day (Zelda), one in summer (Animal Crossing), and two during the holidays (Mario & Pokemon) would be ideal.

This could work nice for a change

Interesing how few people remember that console.

Yes, the one that opened with Zelda and not Mario, the console that won the 7th generation war despite how many gaming enthusiasts try to insist the 360 did.

Ladies and Gentlemen, does no one remember the Wii and Twilight Princess!?

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

i'll say to those who are saying "i'll pick one up later if such and such isn't out" may want to look at the wii and classic mini. Sure, it may not be as successful as either of those. Are you willing to take that chance? If there are pre-orders, i suggest making them.

Also, zelda would be great, but if there's a new luigi's mansion?! I'd be so all-caps over that shit.

Agree. Zelda at launch. Pokemon at summer, Mario at holiday.

Zelda and Mario are new games while Pokemon (rumored of course) is a third version.

Pokemon isnt coming summer. Nov earliest. Unless it is a port and not a third version/sequel.

3D Mario is a bigger game than a third Pokemon version.

There is precedent for launching with Zelda and not Mario.

Based on what? If we look at the most relevant comparison on 3DS, OR/AS remakes outsold 3D Land even after launching 3 years later (I think w/o bundles also) and with a prior installment already on the system (X/Y). Also worth noting is that this would be the first HD mainline Pokemon game playable on TV, that may or may not be a big deal. :L

The Switch launch is already breaking precedent so that doesn't really mean anything, plus Wii U launched with Mario, though not a 3D one.
