Forums - Sales Discussion - Amazon U.S. January bestsellers and general Amazon-based discussion

May mean nothing in the end, since we dont have actual numbers and the shipments given to gamestop could be small, but its good news for Switch nonetheless(thought this would be relevant to the discussion here)

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

People are trying to downplay the Switch so hard. But you know what? The thing definitely gets the attention of people. Not just here and in other gaming forums, also in social media and YouTube. EVERYONE is talking about the damn thing, that's free PR right there.

Ok, there are a lot of negative voices. But I remember a little thing that was announced 10 years ago. A little device that was discussed everywhere to death and many people hat a whole loz of reasons why the device will fail big time. The thing I'm talking about was called iPhone.

Can we keep the fanboy crap out of the Amazon thread, please. I've been complaining about Amazon for months now and said many many times I don't trust the positions for various reasons. Instead of automatically reaching for the fanboy nonsense, try to at least read through other Amazon threads for context. This is the problem when people who don't follow the Amazon threads come in here to comment. Whether I'm right or wrong with this is of no importance here, what is important is this constant need to fit people with labels. I didn't trust it when it had the PS4 in the lead either and on those grounds was going to stop updating Amazon if Amazon didn't get January right.

Switch is doing what the Wii U and NES sold out and both didn't end up doing so well after initial launch

I don't think there's anything wrong with the charts. Switch is coming in at a time when all consoles are down from the holidays. Whatever sales it gets it's going to do more, currently, than PS4 and XB1, hence already being number 1 on the yearly.

Basically, it's a brand new system and it's going to sell out of all shipments at every retailer.

Maybe Welfare is right. I just can't remember a situation like this before. I've seen consoles hold a position for a little while when they were out of stock but never over a full day.

I can't remember exactly what it was, but I seem to recall seeing some items stay high like this after selling at a really high rate.  I'm not sure why it happens, if it is a bug or what, but it's definitely unusual.

Couple that with the fact Amazon was wrong for two months, some XB1 bundles not even get a chart position, and you have to at least aknowledge something may have changed permanently. At the end of the day, time will tell.

Well I mean this iirc is a recurring, longer running bug.  And at the very least, the monthly chart seems to be updating correctly.  So we'll have to see how it goes.  Unfortunately, it will be hard to judge from this month alone as these are preorders, not sales.

Well i did say maybe. =)

Really though, i just think pre order sales are keeping it up there. Nothing else right now is going sell as much as a new system. It'll fall but much slower than usual. Don't forget Nintendo's artificial demand tactic keeping people pre ordering.
