Schengen yet again showing why we need borders, and why completely open external borders can do nothing to protect citizens.

It's awful for genuine refugees and migrants. They are the ones who lose out the most as this will ultimately just lead to stricter migration regulation. Merkel screwed up big time. Such a stance was always going to have regressive consequences no matter how "progressive" people thought it was.

How does  ending Schengen prevent a fucktard that entered Europe as a fake refugee from driving a truck into a crowd of people? If you want to argue borders, argue European borders with the North Africa, but when you have people literally swimming across the sea to end up in some random beach in Europe, what the hell are we to do?

In this case even though they tried to deport him, Tunisia did not want to receive him. There is no good, clean solution to this fucking mess, but creating even higher inconvenience for regular European citizens by ending Schengen is not the answer.

I honestly don't see any clean solution to all this, there might not be one at all.

I find it exactly the right taste. I mean who are we offending here? You don't like terrorists being killed?

It's not about offending anyone, it's the principal of celebrating death.

I'm not saying he didn't deserve to die, that he shouldn't have been shot or that him being caught or even killed is not good news, and I certainly do not have any sympathy for him.

All I'm saying is that no matter what form it takes death shouldn't be a means for celebration, Yay we killed the bugger, happy holidays, merry christmas. Break out the beer and the streamers. Hooray woooo!!!

We caught a bad person, we killed him, great the world is a safer place. But it shouldn't be treated as an excuse for a party, that's just trivializing something serious.

See it the other way then. We're not celebrating death. We're celebrating the lives that are saved thanks to his demise. We're celebrating that the people he tried to kill next are safe and do not have to fear for death.

Can we celebrate for people to be safe and not be killed?

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

It wouldn't have stopped him getting into the external border, however Merkel welcomed ALL migrants who could get to Germany, noting Germany doesn't have ANY borders with non EU countries. However she basically opened the flood gates through that promise to all the countries like Greece and Italy.

That said, Schengen did enable him to get into Italy with no documentation, once he had done his attack in Germany. Hell, the thing I find the most scary, is that he was only caught due to a routine check on the Italian's part. Had he gone to other parts of Europe, he would probably have been able to disappear. :/

I'm not sure you can see it, but your own post is pretty much why such a stance is such a bad idea!

he shot a police officer in Italy before being shot himself, definitely not innocent by any metric

Well, didn't hear about that, ok. But I still refuse to celebrate the killing of any person. It won't bring back any innocents, it only gets us further down the road of the terrorists. If we really want to make a difference, that should be seen in our behaviour. Cheering for the death of someone is barbaric, it's exactly what those kind of people do.

But anyway, I'm not sad or anything either, don't get me wrong. I just don't want to party because of that incident.

Lol so on the day Osama was killed you were like "Hey guys dont celebrate his death, I know he killed 3,000 people (or Bush did who knows) but their is still good in him :("

He was receiving assistance. CCTV footage has him spending the night in a mosque near the attack, which was probably how he was able to avoid capture early on.

I think you just proved my own point for me. Germany's stance on taking all those refugees as well as 'refugees' has absolutely nothing to do with Schengen.

I love my freedom to visit any country I want to in Europe without having to be bothered with bullshit borders. I for one don't want to sacrifice my freedom to do so because there's some countries deciding to open themselves to all north african and middle eastern refugees when their real interest is an influx of cheap labor (like Germany does).

Now the point still stands, if this guy came from Tunisia, his family was in Tunisia and they didn't even want to get him back, what can we actually do? I don't think it's fair for Italy to have to support all the cost of this illegal imigration just because they are the ones closer to that region.

So either Europe has an actual plan to deal with this crysis or we don't. Even though we sure as fuck didn't start it.

I find it a little tasteless to say "christmas has come early" in regards to someone being shot and killed... no matter how horrific the person.

Would be better if he was caught alive for investigative purposes, but I'm dropping 0 tears for this piece of shit regardless.

Don't really think it's a cause for celebration.

How did they even allow him to escape to Italy? what the hell was Berlin doing? Shouldn't they have been on maximum border control? If not, then there is some serious issues. If they were, then there are still serious issues needed to be addressed.

I understand if he went into a different town or something, but Italy!?
