Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Is Lost Odyssey a good game and should I put time into it?

Quite possibly the best JRPG of last gen, would recommend it to anyone even remotely interested in JRPGs.

Lost Odyssey is the last great JRPG in my opinion.

It was okay/good in the past on x360, but no masterpiece like Persona 4 or the new Persona 5. Ni No Kuni was better too. A remake of Lost Odyssey would not be wrong - someday, with better graphics & more details + new gameplay features. LO is not in my top 8 of the best jrpg from recent years. The old version is not well aged in my opinion.

So you played Persona 5? Ni No Kuni had some of the most boring character ever created in a JRPG, with no conenction to one another.

Best JRPG of last gen. It's what FF 13 should have been. The ring system and turn based combat is a touch which keep you engaged nicely. The dreams are what make the game especially memorable. The graphics hold up very well on 360 as well.

It battles toe to toe with Valkyria Chronicles for the title of best JRPG of the 7th gen, and it's certainly better than any JRPG released for home consoles of the current gen.

yeah, the Ni No Kuni-characters are not good/boring, i think so too. but the beautiful big world was amazing, the details/graphic and the "studio ghibli"-stil :)

P5: Not yet, I'm waiting for the west version in april :) but my friend has imported it from Japan. For him, its the best game in the last years, especially in story/gameplay/characters. He also found the atmosphere great. I'm sure - many gamer and i share this opinion later too. He analyzes every detail in the game and I talk with him for hours about the story of games =) For comparison: he gave FF15 only 79%, Dark Souls 3 85 % and Persona 5 92% :) He also writes regularly import-reviews on a different page (can i write the site or are names of the competition not ok?). General: Good jrpgs are important for the gamer world, which inspire and fascinate people :)

We should stay with the topic: A "Lost Odyssey 2" would also be cool, would welcome it :)

A close friend of mine had it and say great things about it, I would try it if I had a 360.

I'm a bit impressed so many people here says it was the best JRPG of the last gen though, I really doubt is better than Xenoblade Chronicles honestly, but who knows...

I've a big problem with Xenoblade Chronicles and it resides in its choice of battle system. For me, It lacks the appeal of a turn based JRPG because you don't have control over your party members in combat, and it lacks appeal as an action JRPG because you don't have full control over your character of choice, preventing it from having fast paced battles (basically, I'm blamming the auto-attacks). I own both Xenoblade games because I want to support JRPGs released on Nintendo's systems, but I wasn't able to clock more than 6 hours in Chronicles before dropping it and only tried X to see if it worked.

I don't see it like that honestly, but it comes down to tastes, I found it pretty addicitive and I did had a much sense of control over the battle than what you describe, maybe you should play it more.
