Am I suppose to be impressed with 2 games going over 100k players? what am I pulling out of my ass now? Now you want to boast about how big steam userbase is.. I don't see anything to boast about when the majority of them only care about playing counter-strike and Dota 2. Look, I got no probs with free online, all I said was I don't find it to be a good selling point anymore. but the fact of the matter remains, if you want fast match making at any given time, you'll find it on consoles whether it is free or not. Why is this truth so hard to understand? |
I have a pretty hard time findin actual statistics for any game but without any evidence I refuse to believe activity is lower on PC. The community may prefer other games but it isn't like every game on PC is dead. Steam is the noly platform with some stats, there are right now half a millione playing CS and 100k people playing GTA 5. That's more than enough to find a full lobby any time of the day. Titanfall isn't listed there, that's on Origin. Maybe EA should finally bring their games to steam again, that would bring up player count for sure.
Then there's the fact that many titles support cross-play. I can play with playstation users in Street Fighter 5, no problem. Gears of War 4 also supports Cross-Play, even if just for Co-Op. But it really isn't too much use to discuss the whole topic without some actual numbers. All I can say is, I never had any problems in that regard on PC. Not with brand new games, not with niche titles, not even with really really old games. I mean you don't need a million people for an online community to be alive. 10k is more than enough. There are more than 100 titles with such a player count on steam alone.
Oh, wait, I found some numbers! Battlefield 1 is right now played by 34k people on PC, 33k people on X1 and 87k people on PS4. So indeed more than double the player base on PS4, but I doubt that makes a huge difference, with 30k players you will find a match any time of the day. Also the PC surpasses the player base on X1 where online gaming isn't free. On to BF4, 10k players on PC, 10k on PS3, 2k on 360, 5k on X1, 12k on PS4. Not really a too big difference.
Can't find stats for Titanfall, but I doubt it's that big of a difference. We only saw actual numbers from the PC version and yes, those were really bad. But that doesn't mean that there are a whole lot more players on consoles.
