Normal people manage just fine, for everyone else there are speakers inside controllers these days.

Watching and playing are not the same as the latter generally requires more effort and focus. I only say generally though because it depends on the game, but for something like Splatoon I definitely don't want a bunch of other things going on around it.

All these people bitching about splitscreen is beyond me. Back in the days we were playing Goldeneye in 4-player split-screen on a 14" CRT and it was a friggin' blast, one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences  I have in mind. Now we have bloody huge 60" TVs everywhere and splitscreen gaming is pretty much dead. Why? Sure, on a 6" tablet it's a little over the top, but why are there so few splitscreen games these days? I don't get it. And I like it that Nintendo goes more into that direction.

I'm guessing because the games either can't run in splitscreen or run too terribly. Just look at Mario Kart 8, with 3-4 players the game drops to 30fps and the graphics are worsened, so splitscreen is definitely more taxing. They probably figure it's easier to only have an online mode.

So make the small screen even smaller and cramp with 8 people trying to huddle around the Switch?

Just seems like a bad idea.  And where are 3 other pairs of Switch detachable controllers are going to come from? That probably means it came from other Switches so why not just use their own Switch screen?  Unless that's a TV, then it better be a huge TV but still.  These days 4 player split screen games just aren't cutting it.

And playing Street Fighter with anything less than 6 buttons is just wrong.

I can imagine a family with 8 kids, all of them huddling around to play the game on the switch lmao

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

This would be glorious on my 1080p projector screen!

This is a pretty niche use case.

Leaving the question of... why?

What 8 people would want to play 4 two player games at the same time?
Specially considering how old those games are.

Ok two you play bubble bobble, while we try to play street fighter with HALF of a controller?

Well, I'd say that Mario Bros. Bubble Bobble, Tekken 2 and Street Fighter II are all very good games, but yeah, I'm not sure who would want to divide 8 people into 4 2-player games on one screen!

Yeah, but Goldeneye is only one game. I remember when I used to do picture-in-picture it annoyed people having two things on the screen, I can't imagine how they would react with four.

Hmm...I'd rather buy the 'pro' controllers than buy additional Joy-cons if i wanted additional controllers.

Playing SF2 with anything other than a SNES pad is just wrong. Luckily Switch will support them.

The Genesis 6-button controller was much better geared towards Street Fighter II.
