BotW reminds me of this and the older art reminds me of 80s Zelda artwork with the softer lines and BotW has a lot of Original Zelda art tribute in the game so it's a big circle for me. I see more Level 5 in No No Kuni 2.

I'm not seeing the similarities between that image and the BOTW screenshot in the OP besides them both being easily identifiable as Japanese.

Started June 2013 (right after E3) and ended December 2014 (more then a month after launch), the thing is though Smash has a lot more variety to be able to do that, it doesn't really matter if they spoil Smash Bros because it's a fighting game, where Breath of the Wild is an adventure game and people don't want to be spoiled (especially after Skyward Sword).

actually, if memory serves, Princess Mononoke was cited as a source inspiration by the devs.
