Hmm feel like we're getting slithers of arrogant Sony at the moment..

Why do you say that?

Do you know the quality of the headset and its tech? How much is this supposed to be sold for? Do you have comparable headsets of similar quality you can compare them to, to give us an idea of why Sony is arrogant here? When did you get to try this new Platinum Headset?

Please, enlighten us.

Woah assumption city needs to be evacuated.

First I never commented on the quality, I never said they weren't good quality, nor did I say it was unfairly priced. I enjoy Sony products, I use them for everything from my TV to my Phone to my only choice of Console. I can assume they're good quality.

I'm saying coming out with this isn't something I could've seen them doing last gen, it just gives me a little feel this could lead to a path where they make these amazing tech with new untested features and they think people will buy because it's Playstation.

I wasn't assuming. I was questioning your comment. Which, to be frank, wasn't really presented in a reasonable way.

You call Sony, a hardware manufacturer, arrogant for releasing new products... That's strange, to say the least. Shouldn't they keep releasing new products? PlayStation is one of their brands. There's nothing wrong if they use their brand to sell their products. Especially when said product is developed with 3D audio for games in mind.

In my first comment I said it shows 'slithers of arrogant Sony' and in my second I said 'lead to a path' I'm going to assume English is your first language so you might have just made a mistake. I did not say this product is arrogance I said it seems like it could lead to arrogant Sony where they can release these high end devices with cool tech that people don't really know about and expect people to buy because it's Playstation.

Using a brand to release products isn't a bad thing. But for example Apple Earpods are stupid devices and cost a lot and are an only alternative they have made for headphone users and doing that is arrogant expecting people to buy. I'm not saying it's the same as what Sony is doing here I'm just saying this COULD lead to a dark road.

PS3 was great technology, and actually was well priced given the cost of a blu ray player, but it was very expensive nonetheless and they expected people to buy because it's Playstation.

tl;dr. I'm not saying it's arrogant, it seems a little weird to have a product cost this much with a tech term most people haven't heard of and expect people to buy it.

I understood what you meant. I still don't agree nor see why arrogance should be brought up in any way. The way I see it, you're stretching it. You see something and imagine a scenario because you want to see it, or have a predisposition, for one reason or an other, to see them in this way. Not because there's anything there pointing towards them maybe eventually becoming arrogant.

This headset is a premium one by them. It isn't mandatory, it isn't forced on consumers, you can still use plenty of other alternatives. There's simply no arrogance whatsoever there.

I have no predisposition against Sony. I'm a huge Sony fan, never bought any other consoles (except play nintendo consoles at friends houses). I hope they succeed next gen as much as they have this gen and so on and so on.

I dunno this just rubbed me weirdly, just as if I can see them coming out with some odd stuff based on strange tech at a high price :) This isn't something that they would've made last gen for this much. (inb4 a PS3 headset for the same price with some new audio tech at the time gets linked to me and I have to take that back)

Releasing entirely optional hardware addons for those that want them has nothing what do ever to do with arrogance.

Not arrogance, but opportunity to cash in on the userbase.

It peeves me that Dolby Atmos can be experienced with any set stereo headphones but this will be put behind a $160 paywall...for what i guarantee will be a stereo headphones (2 drivers).

You're acting like 3d surround sound is high on most peoples list of needs, when 99% of people are perfectly happy running through tv/stereo speakers or using whatever speakers are on their favorite branded headset.

Releasing an entirely optional product that most people won't ever want isn't cashing in on the userbase, its providing options for people who either have money to burn or people to whome audio quality is paramount, and for audiophiles, $160 is chump change.

Look at all of the other official headsets, the pulse, etc, I've never bought one and many people didnt too, it's an option, so it's up to the customer if they want to take that option or not.

If they were releasing games that could not be played without buying that specific hardware, or were significantly impacted by not owning the hardware, then I'd be more inclined to agree, but theyre not, it's simply another audio option for the minority of games that care enough.

Surround sounds been an option on consoles for over a decade, doesn't even require licensed products to work, yet the vast majority of gamers don't use it, most people aren't going to buy these either. especially if it's literally only a single year old game at launch that even makes use of it.
