Forums - Gaming - What´s next for UEDA, Gen Design and Sony !?

Now that The Last Guardian is out and all point to it being a sucess for such a tittles with Pre Orderes in the US surprassing 100k and being in the top 5 ranks across many Japanese retailers, it´s fair to say that Sony might want UEDA to make another game for PlayStation.

So what should we expect? i would love a sequel do Shadow of the Colossus but with more puzzles like Ico or Last Guardian with Bosses in the mix, also some things here and there to differenciate it from the older games.

Fired for taking 10 years to make a game.

I can't wait to see what's next for Ueda and company. He was far and away the most creative and visionary mind at Sony, and it will be interesting to see what he'll do flying solo.

Whatever he puts out i think i will like,he puts out some really unique and fun games.

I wouldn't be surprised to be something else entirely plus I heard that Zero Dawn cost more to make then Last Guardian,so i'm pretty sure something will be announced in 3-4 years and it won't take 10 years to make it's not hard to code for consoles now like it was for PS3 that was the biggest issue for them.

“I’m pretty sure that the next thing I work on will be in a game form. That I’ll say,” Ueda said. “I’m hoping that I can create something that has a lower barrier of entry. But when I say that, I don’t want it to be misunderstood as, ‘oh it’s an easy game,’ or like it’s a ‘casual’ game, or anything like that.

“What I mean by that is, you know, a lot of modern games can be very skill-based. Whether it’s controller input or responsiveness, they can get very technical. And it’s a little intimidating to some people. And so having a lower barrier of entry and sort of ‘loose’ form, that’s not as strict on you, is something that I feel like maybe that’s a place I’ll go next.

“Just because it’s that, though, I want it to have the same amount of impact, and leave a long-lasting impression on the player themselves, and take them on an emotional sort of experience and journey. I don’t know if that is the definition of what I want to work on next, but the image or feeling that I have, is that I want it to be something like that.”

Sounds like Journey.

Ueda is going to be a very interesting dev to follow.

I would love to see a game like Journey. And by that I don't mean a Journey-clone, but a game that is breathtaking in similar ways, both emotionally and visually.

Well, Ueda has remarked that he'd like to make a game like Half-Life.

"Usually, you have to incorporate storytelling with constraints, but the way...[Valve] implemented constraints was something different that I enjoyed, compared to other games."

"[If] ...you're in the middle of play, in the middle of the game, then all of a sudden you're in a cut-scene [and] you're not supposed to operate at all - that's not the kind of game I want to do. If there is some other techniques that will not give them that kind of feeling, that's something I want to implement."  http://kotaku.com/5374207/ico-creator-keen-to-make-first-person-game-update

I doubt you see another game from this man under the Sony banner. Even if one is announced.

Most likely this. GEN Design is Ueda's own un-sony owned studio and of course it was because of tention due to TLG's development cycle. Im not going to say they wont patch shit up, but I dont expect SONY to have any direct involvement witg Ueda's next game.

The Last Guardian II: Even Last-er, coming Holiday 2026.
