Forums - Nintendo - Will 3DS titles come to virtual console on Switch and will they support 3D output to tv?

Switch definitely seems capable of emulating 3DS especially the standard version but will 3DS games support upscaled 3D output to a tv or will the 3D output simply be removed completely and effectively run as if on the 2DS?

Alternatively perhaps if the Switch supports a VR headset (still grasping at this) then all 3DS games would be a perfect fit for this.

I'm a big fan of 3D output but 3D sales have never been that high and with LG now stopping supplying passive 3D panels to third party TV companies there is only a choice of the inferior active 3D or a higher end LG tv for 3D support.

Suspect gamer's on average will be more likely to have a 3D tv but still probably the ratio is likely quite low.

I have;

Passive 3D 4k tv in living room (budget set but brilliant)

1080p passive 3D set in bedroom

active 3D Epson 720p LCD projector

So would it merit supporting 3D tv's or are they obsolete anyway?

No and no

There could be a few 3DS games that get ported, but I don't see it coming to VC since the Wii U only got some DS games while the 3DS didn't get any at all

If it was on VC, however, making it compatible with 3D TVs would be a lot of work which I don't see happening

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

If wii u got DS games then one generation on would be the Switch getting 3DS games.

Also making it work with 3D tv's would be relatively easy as the titles are already set up for 3D.

Anyway thanks for answering not exactly the hottest topic on VGChartz

I don't really care about 3D, and I'm sure Nintendo doesn't care either. If the Switch has 3DS emulation (which I hope it will), they won't try to push the 3D element in any way if it can't be done on the tablet itself. And I'd rather have no 3D on it, I've barely used the 3D in any game.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

There's not much point in supporting 3d TV's. Most of the 4k HDR TV's don't support it. It never caught on, it was bigger a few years ago then it is now.

No one cares about 3D and the most difficult thing with the 3DS software will be games where the second screen is used, not only for issues with the touch screen but to display information. It would require Nintendo and other developers to come up with a work around and it is questionable if they will see that worth the effort.

Which is probably why they are still trying to support the 3DS into next year.

Probably not, and... no?

Can TVs do 3D...? And regardless of that, it would just be easier to just have the 3D off, as people probably barely use the 3D feature.

Also, I dunno if it would be easy to port 3DS games to the switch, as it doesn't function the same way as the Wii U does...

If there's no double-screen output, I don't see how this could work.
