If the compliments were nicer or more elaborate, would they then be more convincing?

Wherein the link you provided does it say that Phil Spencer "hates 3rd party exclusive deals and" and that "he will do away with them"?

Phil Spencer had more to say than just VR being "not a thing".

Read at your own leisure: http://www.gamesradar.com/phil-spencer-xbox-vr/

What part of the quote above did you find particularly objectionable?

Indeed you are entitled.

Ok paragraph 1, you're arguing over semantics. He says he's 'not a huge fan' and something they'll 'do less of'. Have you seen any sign of that? Do you really believe he would of said that if Xbox were in the driving seat? I highly doubt it.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/09/19/xbox-head-discusses-why-final-fantasy-14-is-not-on-xbox-one

Let's go through Spencer's quotes as reported by IGN:

"It's business," he said, adding he couldn't speak too candidly about the matter. "As I've grow in this role, and I've tried to learn the third-party exclusivity thing - and you see us doing less of it now - [I've found] it's not something I'm a huge fan of. Different kind of deals happen, and I know that's part of this busienss, and maybe it'll be my failing in the end," he says, laughing. "But it's not something I specifically embrace with any deal that's out there, whether it's something else. It's just not something I can explicitly talk to."

Nowhere in this do I read that Spencer "hates 3rd party exclusive deals and" and that "he will do away with them". If you do, please point it out for me.

Paragraph 2, your link is great. It shows exactly how he works. He's saying PSVR is great while at the same time playing it down. He does this a lot, he's full of backhanded complements.

http://www.gamesradar.com/phil-spencer-xbox-vr/

"Right now, it’s just been about technologies and things that I think we need to do on Xbox One to make the experience better, and that’s where our focus has been. And I don’t think VR is a now thing. I’m not saying it’s five years from now, but it’s not really a now now thing."

Sounds like Phil was just sharing his opinion, an opinion that's quite common in this very site. I happen to think that while neat, VR is not ready. Am I engaging in console wars when I say that?

SWORDF1SH said:

Paragraph 3, I'm not sure why you can't see it, is it too subtle? Actually I think it's one of his less subtle jabs. again he's taking a shot at Sony, he refers to them as 'other platforms' but he is taking a shot at them Instead of doing what he claims he likes to do and talk about what they are doing, he's trying to highlight what Sony isn't doing. So he doesn't like consoles but thinks it's ok to downplay the competition while saying how good your games are.

https://www.vg247.com/2016/06/15/xbox-boss-doesnt-believe-sony-is-doing-a-better-job-shipping-more-exclusives/

"When I watch the other platforms, it’s not always clear to me when the games are shipping or how many of them are shipping this year. I mean these are a pretty diverse set of games from a great set of developers. And to say that the other consoles are doing a better job shipping more games for their customer… I don’t see that.”

Considering how long it took for Final Fantasy 15 and The Last Guardian to release, I'd say the jab is not an unfair one.

SWORDF1SH said:

In conclusion, MS and Spencer constantly refer to Sony, either directly or indirectly.

Spencer is regularly asked about Sony during interviews.

SWORDF1SH said:

Spencer always downplays Sony. He's can be subtle but everything is well thought out. PS4 Pro in the works 'not a fan of 1.5 consoles '. PSVR in the works 'VR isn't ready'.

Is this the worst Spencer has said about 1.5 consoles and VR? I ask because this is awfully tame stuff.

SWORDF1SH said:

On the other side you hardly hear Sony mention Xbox or refer to it. I think the 'how to borrow a game' was the only pop at MS. Could be wrong but that's the only one I can remember.

Not an unfair jab either.

Ok we will leave it there. You like Spencer and I don't. This argument is going around in circles and I do not agree with anything you are saying.

Just a quick point: Phil Spencer brings up Sony because he's asked about Sony during interviews.

YOU brought up Phil Spencer in this thread with seemingly no provocation:

SWORDF1SH said:

You get the feeling that he's genuine when he says something nice unlike Spencer.

All the while complaining about console wars:

SWORDF1SH said:

Then we have his bullshit about not being "a fan" of console wars but does everything he can to fuel it. After MS pushed the "no games on PS4" narrative last year, he tried his hardest to push the same narrative this year. He constantly tries to compare the XB1 in a better light than the PS4. For somebody that isn't "a fan" he does like to bring the wood for the console war fire, the gaming sites build the fire while the fanboys light it and bask if the fiery fanboy warmth.

If you want an end to console wars, you might want to start by stopping it on your end first.

I'm just some random guy on the Internet, Phil is the head of Xbox. My problem is with Phil's slimey two faced ways, not directly a problem with the console wars. Stay on topic.

I think I'm pretty honest and you can take me at face value and I don't have any hidden agendas.

Anyway, maybe I shouldn't of brought up Phil but thought it was relevant since he 'complemented' Nintendo recently and it struck me as a stiff fake complement. In comparison Shu complements seem natural and honest. That's why I made the comparison between the 2.

Like I said, let's leave it there.
