Forums - General - Amazon Go And Self Driving Cars: Are We Headed To An Automated Future?

your family was in an automated car you got and it malfunctioned. Its just silly

No, It's just fear of technology. Many people where afraif of automobiles 130 years ago.

Today assistant systems like automated breaking systems, lane warning systems or even lane keeping systems are becoming standard and often more reliable than the driver.

Emergency breaking systems should be mandatory for big trucks by now. Don't know US-numbers but in Europe and especially in Germany trucks driving into a traffic jam with full speed have led to some terrible accidents within the last few years.

I see self driving cars as a minor step up from we have long since lost, horses.
Why has it taken so long to get back to what we once had.

Tesla's already can drive them selves.

Jobs will be lost, only solution is gov taxing the hell out of the corporations and providing basic income. Corps will have to support this, they need people to have $ to buy their stuff.

Will lead to revolutions in the economy, finances and monetary system. Stands to reason it will get bad before they figure out and make it good.

Our kids will learn to drive, our grandkids wont though.

And how many deaths have they caused in the last 130 years?

It`s not just fear of technology, these things can and most likely will be dangerous. Sure if they`re successful then eventually they will become much safer but still by trying out any of this stuff any time soon you are definitely taking a risk.

Well musk said they are already more safer but he wantst hem to be 10 times safer.  It is a bit like doctor Watson that can predict what disease you have, and he found a rare leukemia disease that no doctor found. The catch it can still make 100 wrong predictions when he does millions of predictions and people fear it but meanwhile their are 400.000 wrong diagnose(s) by doctors in usa alone every year...

I don't fear automatisation, I fear politicians and the unions.

Self Driving Cars is nuts and, again, unless the cars are on tracks there is no way you can program a car to be prepared for all kinds of circumstances, weather, etc.

Won't happen due to lawsuits and just imagine how terrible you'd feel if your family was in an automated car you got and it malfunctioned. Its just silly

Self Driving cars will DEFINITELY happen. They've been in development for a long time now and Google, Ford and other major companies are pouring money into it. Apple just confirmed a couple of days ago they're also developing self driving cars. Ford plans to have them on the roads to some extent by 2021.

They're not throwing money away for a laugh, and they've looked into everything and thought about everything for a long time, with a lot of expertise and experience.

worried about your kids not learning to drive, and not about the millions who are going to be stuck without low wage employment?

Well they'll either be stuck with government wellfare or compete against millions upon millions of people who will be forced to become mechanical engineers, bad news for those who don't already have a degree in that field.

That'd be cool cause I never want to drive in my life. Only way i'd ever waste money on a car. And yeah i definitely would trust the automated cars more than i'd ever trust any person on a wheel

Cars I think is manageable. I'm sure they will also make changes to how roads are made, traffic lights, street lights etc all as part to ensure the self driving cars don't fail.

However, the shop idea in not sure off. With the ability to clone cards, phones etc it feels like fraud will go up. I also don't think they will be completely automated. There will be a smaller human capacity needed. You won't have cashiers but you will have stock and stacking people, IT people and maybe security just in case.

The only problem with the automated future is the lack of jobs, we need to start to deal with overpopulation, 7.46 billion.... it just can't keep rising.
