Forums - Nintendo - I honestly wouldn't mind if Nintendo never made another "realistic" Zelda game.

So by realism we obviously talking about rendering style, because Zelda's Art style and direction has always been unique and never just settled on realism.

I personally realistic rendering is such a surreal, haunting aesthetic (although didn't love TP's look), so I'm all for another reality game when Nintendo hardware is not visibly dated in that department. They can still add unique rendering flourishes but I'd be all for the below.

Holy shit that video is fucking amazing. Hire this studio to do cutscenes for real Zelda games, that's unreal. If they made a Zelda game in this tone, that would be incredible. Zelda is whimsical and all that, but I've found the most involving aspects of it are often eerie or serene and these animators totally get that.

Breath of the wild, looks to be the most realistic of them so far... and it looks awesome.

Its not the most realistic looking. It looks like a studio ghibly title and I love it

Just a guy who doesn't want to be bored. Also

I actively hope they never do.

I also just genuinely don't think they ever will again.

Cartoony style also can mask some of the hardware deficiencies Nintendo has and you can get away with things like low res textures and what not a little easier.

So that probably also is a reason why Nintendo prefers that style.

If Nintendo was still really competing with Sony/MS for the actual core gamer demographic, then this would be a bigger deal (like it was on the GameCube), but since they're really not even in that race at all anymore, if they want to make a Zelda a cartoon that's their perrogative at this point.

They're never going to be the "cool" or "badass" company, so if making Zelda cartoony or even making Link a kid full time is what they want, so be it.

That said do I think Nintendo could genuinely make something amazing if they pushed Zelda to a bit darker/scarier/more realistic. Absolutely. Look at that Majora's Mask video above and tell me that wouldn't be interesting to play in a world of that tone.

Yuck what is this

I agree with the Op, Breath of the Wild's art style is so perfect for this series and I wouldn't mind if they kept using it and improving on it in the future. Also, no Zelda game has been "realistic".

I would. I want one Zelda game with the same artstyle as the E3 2011 demo.
