I'd say that was a good deal.
$100 off current retail pricing for a good sized TV.
It has decent tech using the HD10 spec (sadly no Dolby Vision HDR),
It is a 240hz model (which for best picture quality in movies you should to turn Fast Motion plus off except for the following instances, watching sports, gaming, or watching movie that was created in HRF).
That model is edge lit so you will see some light bleed in pure dark scenes in a dark room but will otherwise be unnoticeable. The TV does have the best contrast outside of Array lit, and OLED TV's.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but there isn't a TV out there aside from the Z9D that can even fully utilize Dolby Vision. DV needs a 12-bit panel to be fully utilized, and the only thing that has that or more is the Z9D (14-bit). LG can talk a big game, but DV just doesn't perform that much better.

Pretty sure LG's Oleds all have DV.

But it's a moot point, because what even uses Dolby Vision? Some Netflix content, but nothing Physcial that I know of. SO it's kind of a dumb trade off. I'll take fully uncompressed on UHD discs over compressed with DV.

FYI, I have a 2016 Oled LG which supports Dolby Vision.

Put a protection plan on it. The 8 Series has been the most unreliable TV I've ever sold, and we've have more than half of them returned for the same kind of panel failure each time.

Good idea. You can do that after the fact, right?

You should be able to do it within the return policy of the store, but I would cover it through Square Trade. They're cheaper and cover accidents.

Every LG 6 Series and up has DV, but they're all 10-bit panels. Being DV is designed for 12-bit panels, you'll get practically no difference on it. I've discussed this at length with our LG rep, and she admits that it's almost entirely for publicity.

That said, only 7% of HDR content will also support DV.

You can't go wrong with either LG or Samsung. God picture for price and a shitload of features, plus good support for streaming services.

paying 1400$ for something you need to look closer to see the color difference, which doesnt even has anything to do with resolution. GG

Exact same 4K television I have, would say you did well.

Yup, 55 inches are at the cusp of 1080p's quality range. Also goes to show how good the picture quality Sammy's have.

I was going to wait till next year to buy a 4K TV, but then came Cyber Monday. I went to Best Buy to help this woman out with buying a PC. She got busy talking to a sales rep and I somehow find myself wandering in the TV section. I wanted to test the knowledge of the sales rep there. Then laugh at his face about the failure of current TV sets with input lag.

This guy with tattoos walked up to me. Pretty good looking chap, BTW. He asked me if I needed help. I was standing in front of a demo unit for the KS9000 Samsung TV and another Sammy TV. I asked him what the difference between these two TVs were, because I couldn't tell the difference at first. Then he said one is a 4K TV and one is 1080p. I looked closer and saw the color difference and was pretty impressed.

I then I asked him about the price range of this TV. He said it was on sale for $400 off. The 55 was like $1500. I still wasn't convinced to buy it.

I asked him about the OLED TVs and he said they have really good picture quality, but the input lag is pretty bad. He said the Sammy TV is the best for gaming.

I told him I will think about it. The TVs right now are not to my liking. With me really wanting an OLED, but input lag sucks and maybe burn-in issues. I said the Sammy is really tempting though.

He gives me his name and I wander off.

I then get home and see this stack of 4K Blu-rays that I've been hoarding over the past 2 weeks. From sales that range between $9.99-$17.99 a piece. These bitches were flying off the shelves last week. I'm mad I couldn't secure myself a copy of Pacific Rim for $17.99

Between playing Pokémon Go, Mobius Final Fantasy and watching TV on my Xbone, I browse the TVs on Best Buy and I come across this KS8000 65" on sale for $1400. The devil started weighing on my left shoulder. I couldn't help it anymore. I press the buy button. 😤

What pushed me over the edge? These freaking 4K Blu-ray sales. Just knowing that Xbone had this feature and I can partake in this new form of eye porn, I couldn't help it man.

So, my new TV comes tomorrow.

What do you guys think? Good buy?

I only bought a K8000 Samsung 55" 4K HDR TV due to my Plasma dying. Content was scarce and thought PS4 looked like garbage on it compaired to my Plasma. Then I picked up the PS4 Pro, Fixed my worries about the TV I had purchased. Games look awesome and don't have to put TV in dumb mode anymore (game Mode) to get it to work like I did with the PS4. Bummer about no 4K Player, but no Alien yet so I don't really care until that movie is out.

No Bubble bursted at all. There is nothing wrong with looking toward compatability with all, or as many features as possible. The lack of DolbyVision is part of the reason I have not upgraded my TV yet.

EDIT: Reading more of your post, I can't help but feel you shouldn't be recommending TV's.

1. There isn't a 2016 TV that runs at 240hz. That would be the "motion rating" of 240, and is also only in relation to 1080p. 4K sources only run at 60hz/120MR.

You are correct, I mis-spoke, it is 240 motion rating and not 240hz.

2. Higher refresh rates don't make TVs smoother. Plugging 60hz into a 120hz doesn't turn the source into 120hz. What makes TVs look smoother is the motion rating.

This is mostly correct. The motion rating is the rating given to reflect the TV's ability to create the effect that replicates what the source would look like if it was recorded at the given value.

This effect is typically done with an algorithm that predicts motion based on comparing two frames and it re-creates additional frames between those frames that don't actually exist in the source material to make the motion smoother/sharper on the screen. The actual hz rating of the TV can have a major impact on the level of impact.

Despite this clarifiaction, the suggestion for motion-plus settings stand.

Yeah, I'm replacing my Panny Plasma with this TV. Im getting yellow ficker on the right side of the screen at times. So far the LCD TVs I've gotten from LG and Panasonic suck in comparison to it. Plasma has awesome blacks.

Maybe this TV doesn't upscale as good as a PS4 Pro does, so it looks like crap with a PS4.
