I work in VC, and we always look at gaming applications for emergent technologies. It's the single largest entertainment sector, by revenue. The stigma attached to gaming was significantly dissipated by Madden and CoD, much to the chagrin of us "old school" gamers.

That being said, keep spending lol.

I prefer physical too, mostly because I then have the option to sell or lend the game later.  Physical copies often cost less as well.  So, its largely a financial thing for me.  But, as the real cost of gaming continues to decrease*, the idea of not swapping out disks becomes more and more appealing. 

I do like going to the store, looking over the games on the shelves, and reading the back of the box.  That's just the way I grew up shopping for games, and I've always enjoyed it.  I wish there was a disk changer for consoles.....

*Full price console games have been $60 for about 20 years now.   But, inflation means that games now cost about $35 in 1996 dollars.  Possibly more importantly, the hours of enjoyment that come from most games has tremendously increased. 

Is it that Video Games are up or that everything else is down making video games stand out more? I know last xmas season all retailers except Amazon were down YoY.

It probably helps that Best Buy had some really great deals. I got Fire Emblem Birthright for $25 and I saw a PS4 for $250 with a game. (Is that how much it cost normally? Sounds like a great deal if you like playstation.) .There were other sales but I got there late because I only went there to buy a mouse.

Most of my friends plays games even my work mates play games. My life is surrounded by gamers :'-)
