Haven't seen Dark City either.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Have you seen any of Wes Anderson's films ben?

They're definitely not for everyone, but those that like them, like them a lot.

Bottle Rocket
Rushmore
The Royal Tenenbaums
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zisou
Darjeeling Limited.

His films just have such a witty, yet absurd comedic style.

I'd suggest you start off with either The Life Aquatic or Bottle Rocket, but if you like one, it's safe to say you'll like them all.

Personally, I think Tenenbaums was his best work. The characters in that movie were absolutely hilarious. My second choice would be Life Aquatic. Rushmore annoyed me at points, though I still enjoyed it. Bottle Rocket was quite good, too.

I still need to watch Darjeeling one of these days.

alright, one of my favourite films of all time is one that I'm oft reluctant to recommend to other people, but so far you seem to have some great taste in movies ben, so here goes.

Last Night. It's a film about the end of the world. But instead of some overwrought action adventure, it's a drama about how a handful of people decide to spend their last night on earth, having known for months that this was coming.

I just think it's such an interesting look at such a situation. It might be hard to find, being a Canadian film and all, but if you could track down a copy of Nothing, I'm sure you could find it too.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Ah, yes. Last Night. Very interesting film. Very intelligent.

Some people will hate, I found it fascinating and it was a really interesting take on the idea. I particularly liked the fact that they never gave one mention as to why the world was ending, they just accepted that it was so. More films should adopt this strategy to storytelling. If how the world is ending in your film is irrelevant to the story, don't tell the audience and convolute things. Children of Men also did this with the childbirth problem and I thought it worked wonderfully.

Damnit, I just agreed with a Canadian again. Gotta stop doing that.

Yeah, funny, since we just re-watched Kung Fu Hustle on Friday since someone hadn't seen it yet.

Seen Requiem for a Dream, Donnie Darko, and almost all of the Coen Brothers' work, all great stuff. I've seen a number of the fighting movies listed, though definitely not all of them. Not always my cup of tea but they're generally pretty good.

I'll throw out a list of some of my favorites from onto here (not really in order, just as I remember them), so you know what I would recommend:

Star Wars 4, 5, 6
Lord of the Rings
Unbreakable
The Sixth Sense
The Shawshank Redemption
Batman Begins
Equilibrium
Casino Royale
Fight Club
Shaun of the Dead
Dawn of the Dead
28 Days Later
Primer
Indiana Jones 1 & 3
Silence of the Lambs
Hannibal
Young Frankenstein
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Gattaca
Inside Man
And Now for Something Completely Different
Anchorman
Bruce Almighty
Minority Report
Aliens
The Fugitive
Enemy at the Gates
Saving Private Ryan
The Shining
Jurassic Park
The Matrix 1
V for Vendetta
American History X
Groundhog Day
Swingers
Gladiator
Dr. Strangelove
Snakes on a Plane
The Prestige
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Little Miss Sunshine
Sunshine
Schindler's List
Good Night and Good Luck
The Hudsucker Proxy
A Christmas Story
The Big Lebowski
No Country for Old Men
Edward Scissorhands
Children of Men
Tommy Boy
Pan's Labyrinth
The Departed
The Blues Brothers
The Science of Sleep
Waiting for Guffman
Superbad
Knocked Up
American Psycho

I'm not a huge classic or western person, though I haven't really given some genres a shot.

Just wow I like 90% of the movies on this list and I have not seen the rest (yet). I'm going to copy this list and see the rest of the movies we seem to have the same taste almost scary.

A couple more Mel Brooks movies: Blazing Saddles and Robin Hood: Men in Tights. I would also recommend the Bourne movies.

"The King of Kong" its about the best Donkey Kong Arcade player ever... there is one sceen where he is playing and has a real high score but then his little son comes in crying and screams "DADDY... WIPE MY BUTT !!!!" I was laughing so hard I was crying... every true gamer should watch that movie... if only for that one sceen...

The King of Kong actually has a higher metacritic score than Peter Jackson's "King Kong" remake.

COD MW Reflex 541192229709

I agree that BenKenobi88 listed many good movies. Quality mainstream movies.

Here's my favorite movies that haven't been listed in the thread, xcept a couple:

M Shalamayan's movies
Apocalypto.
München
K-PAX
The butterfly effect
A.I.
Contact
Leon
The Others
1492: the quest for paradise
Willow
A beautiful mind
Kingdom of Heaven

EDIT: Braveheart hasn't been mentioned yet?

Mainstream movies are what came to my mind first, and they are good movies in my opinion. People tend to give independents much more credit than a mainstream movie, simply because of their lower budget. They tend to forget that a lot of expensive and popular movies are popular for a reason.

Is the road warrior and the mad max series in general, good movies?
