Yes, I'll put Chinatown on my incoming list, looks good.

Chinatown is ****ing amazing.

A few others:

- City of Lost Children (French film, Ron Perlman, kinda like a Tim Burton film)

- City of God (Brazilian film, most excellent, kinda like a Tarantino film)

- Night of the Lepus (terrible horror film, 100% pure awesome)

- Dirty Pretty Things (very very interesting story... don't want to give it away)

- Adaptation (Nicholas Cage is pretty amazing in this)

- Punch Drunk Love (I love me some PT Anderson, also see Magnolia if you haven't already)

- Any Bogart or Grant film (North by Northwest, Vertigo, Casablanca, Maltese Falcon, The African Queen, The Big Sleep, Notorious, etc).

- 12 Angry Men (absolutely fascinating character study)

I could keep going on and on. I watch way too many movies. If you're into classic films, I can recommend a lot of them. I went through Netflix and ravaged their classics section several years back.

A few newer films that are very good:

- History of Violence

- Eastern Promises

- Michael Clayton (great line at the end but a pretty formulaic movie overall... still good though)

Casablanca is a superb film. I'd also high highly recommend North By Northwest, Maltese Falcon, and the Big Sleep. I haven't saw The African Queen yet, and only a bit of Vertigo. If he's going to give some classics a try, I'd also recommend Sunset Boulevard and The Third Man. Both are amazing films.

Of the other films on your list that I have watched, Chinatown and Punch Drunk Love are both good movies(just not among my favorites). I really want to see Eastern Promises and City of God.

"I feel like I could take on the whole Empire myself."

The Kat Hepburn/Humphrey Bogart dynamic in African Queen is extraordinary. I really recommend the film. Sunset Boulevard and The Third Man are also excellent choices.

I just watched Eastern Promises last night. Who would have guessed that Aragorn was such a good actor? He was also excellent in History of Violence.

Hey Ben, have you seen Das Experiment?

It's a German film - hope you don't mind subtitles- about an actual sociological experiment that took place in Germany. a group of volunteers were split in to two groups, guards and inmates, and were to enact their roles in a simulated prison. In real life, the experiment had to be closed down when violence broke out between the two groups. In the film, things are obviously expanded upon, but it makes for a great psychological thriller. I'd highly recommend it for someone looking for something new.

In fact. Speaking of german films, have you seen Run Lola Run? If not, I really can't explain it at all aside from telling you to watch it.

P.S. Also, Cube. Have you seen Cube? Cube is a sort of B movie, but it's one with a really great concept and a consistent creepily cool feeling.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Stof, I loved Cube. You're right, it's kinda a B movie but the concept is really cool and unusual. I found it on On Demand a year or so back and was pretty impressed considering what I expected going into the film.

I'll second the vote for Run, Lola, Run while I'm at it.

Blue Velvet

Just a few lesser knowns off the top of my head. Most are pretty recent.

I've seen all but Coffee & Cigarettes. I really loved The Squid and the Whale.

Also, rocketpig, I've seen a lot off your list like City of God, Adaptation, Punch Drunk Love, Magnolia, Casablanca, The African Queen, The Big Sleep, 12 Angry Men, History of Violence, Eastern Promises, Michael Clayton. Punch Drunk Love is one of my favorite movies, I should probably keep that in my list.

stof, I have not seen Das Experiment...sounds interesting, we'll get it on the list, haven't seen Run Lola Run either. I guess I have to watch that as well.

I've seen Cube and its sequels...we had a sci-fi marathon a while back...the first one was good, the sequels, definitely not so much hehe.

Ben, if you liked the movies you listed, you absolutely have to watch Pretty Dirty Things and City of Lost Children.

Trust me, you'll love the shit out of both movies for entirely different reasons.

Again, I'll repeat:

Watch Run Lola Run. Seriously. It's one of the most non-action-but-still-action films you will ever see.

If you want more low-key films, see my last three posts.

I'm rather shocked at so many people reccomending so many bad films. Shame on 14 year olds, I guess.

Harold & Maude.

Another fabulous movie.

Goddamn it, I'll keep doing this all night.
