Hm, from a pure video gaming standpoint, I agree.
Edit: Actually, I agree with it in terms of Xbox. I think Nintendo gamers have a pretty diverse interest in every genre of games a swell. Problem is they don't get 3rd party support so they're kind of limited if they only play on Nintendo.

I hold the same opinion. My main problem is that this openess Sony has leads to them becoming the "dump" system where not only good games, but also bad games, are eventually released and some are so awful and anathema to me (otome games for one) that I am actually more put off by them than by the games I actually like. It's what drove me away from the PSVita, a console I used to like to some extent until these games arrived and I felt more and more inclined to sell it to not be associated with it and anything it represents.
In this regard, I actually like the fact my console of choice has a bit less diversity, since it represents an ecosystem to hostile to anything not firmly entrenched already. Sadly, it sometimes ends up moving too far to the otherside and we wind up with missing genres.
As a whole, I believe it'd be a great console if they started using some form of game library control to keep the bad stuff out. It might be the most diverse and gamers who aren't bothered by some games should have little problems with it, but for me, it's sort of the thing that drives me away. I also feel relying on games alone has made Sony lazy on certain fronts and I don't like it one bit as their popularity leads them to have few reasons to become more feature rich (external HD and mouse and keyboard support, unlimited mod support and whatnot... Stuff that befalls on the user's side rather than the publisher). Which leads me to say they appear to be more concerned on company exclusivity and prestigue along with their relation to devs rather than allowing gamers to do as they see fit.
Sorry for the rant, I only wanted to clear that out.
