Probably a lot less than 40m. Units-sold for an older system are usually way ahead of active user base totals. It's not just about replacement units or collectors versions, it's also people who are no longer invested in the ecosystem. All systems have drop-off.
I think we'll also see households that bought/would buy multiple handheld consoles for multiple children only buy one Switch because of the price tag.
