Hyper Light Drifter was nominated. I didn't see that coming. That game seemed to be flying a bit under the radar, and it seemed to me like no one really loved it as much as I did.

I don't love it but I liked it, is pretty good. Glad it had 2 nominations but the lack of Owlboy makes me sad.

I actually hadn't heard of owlboy until I saw your signature. It looks absolutely amazing! Maybe it's just a little too new to make the list. How long is it? Would you say it's definitely worth the $25?

The main story is about 8 hours long and if you go the completionist way you have 12-15 hours, since the game has a high level of quality all the time I think is an ok lenght, wether is worth 25$ or not depends on how much you like this kind of game and how much you value quality over quantity, I personally think it is totally worth it, but you can wait for a sale and get it at 15$ or so, at that price is a must have.

Your post actually probably points out why it isn't here.  It's possible not enough of the pannel of judges played it.  The indie scene is extremely overcrowded.  You can thank freaking Valve for that.

I like Valve but the lack of quality filters on Steam is truly a cancer for many good indies.

Still Owlboy seems to be selling fine for what it is. Is having some legs but is still mostly unknown.

Dang, I thought my description painted a good image as to why it should. What more can I say? It's got a creative and visually impressive presentation and is unique from the rest of the nominated games, as well as most games ingeneral. It's paper craft world definitely makes a good fit in the art direction category.

Saying why it has good art direction isn't the same thing as why it's better than the current nominee list. Being unique doesn't strike me as a reason its art direction is better than the rest of the nominees. I definitely don't think it's bland or anything but the current list of nominees are pretty strong in the art direction too.

You're still not satisfied with my answer?? I dunno what more to tell you. You asked why I considered it to be a nominee and I gave you multiple answers. What  else do you want me to say? I find it interesting you focus on the part I mention its uniqueness, and not the creative aspect of of it. The unique comment is more so to compliment the creativity of Color Splash.

I think it is a little presumptuous for this obscure website to declare that their little thing are "THE" game awards of 2016.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

No Gow4 on GOTY? :O

8hrs isn't bad at all, and if the quality is high enough I'll definitely go for an at least semi-completionist run at some point. This type of game is right up my alley. It's like everything I've been looking for in a 2D action/platformer for ages. I see the developers are working on a Linux port, so I'll probably pick it up whenever that hits.

I honestly wish Xenoblade Chronicles X became best RPG of the Year because I think it deserves it, but I don't see that happening, what a pity.
