They are just totally different cartridges. The only Switch to support 3DS games are probably by digital form.

The thing is though, Nintendo shouldn't want their customers to resort to picking up their old handheld and putting the Switch down at all, if it was possible to just Upgrade fully to a switch and ditch the older System then it encourages everyone to upgrade to the new machine and stay there.

I agree with the others, it's not needed. Though you make an interesting argument about lengthening the lifespan of the 3DS. They don't need to implement BC to do this, they just need to keep chugging out software for it...which Nintendo probably won't do now that I think about it. They should focus more on Virtual Console and reviving it for Switch.

not on switch as we know.
but maybe on a portable switch, where you can put the screen vertically, and switch the joy cons accordingly. And would work like a 2DS.
So, it would keep the switch concept, where you can switch between switch mode and 3DS mode.
But only in 2018 holidays.

Meanwhile, 3DS should be alive, still receiving games.
