#41 - Shovel Knight
I was extremely excited when I found out about Shovel Knight. 16 b... ehrm, 8-bit classic gameplay, hard, creative, and a throwback to some games that I love, yet didn't experience as much as others. Did it deliver? Not entirely, but it is a blast to play. It also holds, hands down, THE best modern chiptune in a videogame, and nothing will ever challenge it. Every single tune unique, phenomenal, and with their own theme, fitting both the level and boss in them. Gameplay is... where it falls just short. Your main weapon, being a shovel, is pretty limited in range and options. Death are commonly unfair and annoying, since you take fixed knockback from any and every hit, so you can easily fall off an endless pit. Thankfully, you can use a multitude of secondary weapons, with tons of variety. One breaks blocks of sand in succession, one let's you fly for a distance, another gets you invinsibility for a tiny period of time, and like 8 more! The story is just fine, and the characters are great. Overall a joy to play, except for when you die... a few times.
#40 - F-Zero (SNES)
Two great soundtracks in a row? Funny. Anyway, not much to say about this one. For a racing game limited to singleplayer, no items, no online... It's pretty addictive. Maybe it's the difficulty, the different cars you can use, or just fun. There's not much to do in it, and I still played it more than some Wii U games *cough* Also, I like old games, ok?
Hint #39: "All you had to do was follow the damn train, __!"
Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.
