42: GoldenEye 007. The art being black/white doesn't help lol.

Super Metroid as guessed by Slarvax
'Super Metroid' is a game commonly mentioned among all-time classics. Rightfully so I might add, it is a monumental title and very influential in it's genre. The atmosphere created in the game is unprecedented, level-design superb; you'll feel very lost in it's world, trying to find a way out.
In the game, protagonist Samus tracks down the captain of the Space Pirates known as Ridley who stole the last of the Metroids and wants to use it to harness it's power. Gameplay centers around exploration and finding weapons and items to proceed ever closer to finding Ridley only to find out he wasn't the one pulling the strings. The game has too many secrets to count, and finally reaching the exhilarating endgame is a great moment. Only to find out you found 70% of all the secrets.
I had played this game on the Super Nintendo way back when, but because I never owned one myself during it's prime, the game passed out of knowledge for quite a long time. Only to be rediscovered when it was re-released on the WiiU's virtual console. This made me remember that, yes, this game was amazing.
#41: It took over a decade and a certain publisher to butcher the series that made this genre great, but last year we finally got a game, made by different people, to pass the torch to.

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]
I've decided that I'll attempt to play everyone's first place game sometime next year, if I have not already played it, provided that I can run it on hardware that I already own. If there's a widely accepted number one, I may even buy new hardware for it.

That's a lot of commitment. I can't wait to see how well you like E.T. :D |
I figure that I'll have played some of them already. Plus, a few will probably be out due to the need for hardware that I don't own. If there's still a bunch of games to play, I bought some insurance by using the word *attempt*.
Hint for #41.
The fate of this crumbling empire rests on a criminal and a monk.
Game 42 - Majora's Mask 3D (Which also has my favourite artwork of all time)
First things first, I haven't finished this game. I got to the Stone Tower Temple and stopped for one reason or another.
Anyway, the main reason why it's "low" is because it uses the same engine as OoT, which I don't like in the first place. Besides that, I think this is a very creative and unique game. The 3 day mechanic, while a little irritating because you lose all your "progress", it's a great way to interact with the people from Termina. You get to meet most of them, relate to them, and solve their problems. The emphasis on sidequests reinforces this relationships even more, so that's great design by Nintendo. And of course, the major mechanic, the masks. One of the main reasons people love this game, and rightfully so. Each mask has a unique use, with 3 of them making Link into a completely different character (all of which we get to know, with a special story [except for the Deku Scrub]). Overall great game.
Hint 41: A blue knight with a unique, unexpected weapon gives the name to this hit indie game.
Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.
