Forums - Sales - Rise of Tomb Raider PS4 vs X1 comparison

Oh, that is rich. Too bad SFV won't be able to at least do the same (release on another console and get a "second wind") These time/previous multiplat exclusive deals still make my head hurt but I'm no a businessman so it's beyond me whether MS made the right decision or not.

Well, if SFV launched on X1 today I don't think it would really favor them since their problems are more on the game itself them on the platform it was released or the size of the userbase.

Its not really fair....

i didn't buy it at launch. It wasn't available on steam, no steam means the PC version really doesn't count as a "pc release" especially concidering all the horror on the windows 10 store....

Most people didn't want to support it on PC because of that decision, so the install base on PC was maybe... 5% of what it normally is (at best).

We all know the Xbox One version didn't sell super well at the time, the xbox one doesn't sell that well compared to the PS4 in generall and it was quite a hard time to launch with Fallout4 and stuff.

Its still really nice to see the PS4 version doing well this year, but it makes sense, the only big sony exclusive is the last gaurdian, which is coming later, and there are just the usual big games and remakes for the PS4 right now, thats a much better time to launch :D

Also its one of the best games for people who are buying a PS4 pro since it has many options for the new console.

Personally, I still blame F4 for this... It was too big to effectively compete with.

Yes it is, and yes it does... just because you weren't happy about it not releasing on Steam day one doesn't mean it didn't release, that's like saying the XBO and X360 releases don't count as the "console release" because it didn't release on PS4 until later...

We can discount the PC sales because it released 3 months later, but then PS4 releases a year later and is bigger then all summed (and like 30 times the sales of PC).

It is not really surprising even if its a 1 year old game. It lanched same day as fallout 4. Also ps4 and pc release date
announcements might have took some sales as well. Tomb Raider has always been more sony title. I think it did a little over 1m on xbox one + xbox 360 by the end of december according to microsoft?

Ps4 has so much bigger userbase and Tomb Raider fanbase that it just sells same or more copys. With Uncharted 4 came out 5 month earlier I think Uncharted left people wanting more these kinds of games so Rise of the Tomb Raider is ideal purchase for them. + some new DLC and vr stuff.

It will be interesting to see how dead rising 4 will do this year on xbox one and next year on ps4. I think it wont do great in x1 and will flop hard on ps4. DR4 is also more xbox game than playstation, not like Tomb Raider.

I don't know about anybody else but, for me, with all of the features RotTR looks like the ideal showcase for the PS4 Pro. That's why I'm getting it, again.

was one of the first games on windows 10 store, the game didnt even download, the game didnt boot, the game was a mess. you needed te latest version of windows 10, you upgraded for it, downloaded everything, and then it would just download 100000GB untill your harddrive was full, crash and reboot your pc saying it failed.

The game didnt support sli, or fullscreen, or well any graphics card. Before it was patched and later released on steam, which all happened way later anyway, the game was not just a mess, but for most people not even bootable xD

Maybe so... but it was still released on the PC then, regardless of state lol :P That's like saying Batman Arkham Knight didn't release until... whenever they fixed it, lol, can't remember when that was, but didn't they take it off Steam to fix it? :P

The real truth is the game started selling when it was 1)fixed and 2)released on steam, sure, you can say it "officialy" released earlier and sold like crap, thats true. But the developer said it sold "much better" after that point, so when you are analyzing how a game did, obviously this should be taken into account, because else your viewing it too black and white.

And yeah, batman was even... worse... but since that game was pulled, and not for sale anymore, it never really released on the pc at that date

Imagine if they released side by side. It would just outsell it. It would outsell it 3/4:1

Can't be selling that well, it's already discounted to 45$ on amazon.

The PS4 is huge sales success. And it should be: it is a awesome console with a good interface and amazing games. It is a solid built eletronic consumer product with a lot to offer.
This round belongs to Sony, but it was not something they got as a gift from heaven, they fought hard for it: they listened to the developers and consumers, something that sometimes Nintendo and MS do not want to do.
Remember the Orwellian nightmare the Xbox One suppose to be before Sony got into the game: always online, restrictions on used games, a bunch of nonsense.
