Man, Sega Saturn is gonna be huge in Brazil one day.

TBH, it bombed pretty damn hard here. While Sega dominated before, the PS1 really crushed everything here. The N64 suffered with the price of cartridges. Also, piracy really helped the PS1, since pirated games would cost US$ 3. The PS2 kept this scenario going, while the next gen saw the 360 dominating also due to piracy. Online play impacted the use of pirated games and, in this gen, it's basically still dead.

I'm not sure if the PS4 or X1 are ahead here, since a lot of PS4s are imported and won't count towards official numbers. I feel that X1 is probably a bit ahead since it's consistently cheaper here by a decent margin, but it's pretty hard to say.

I feel sorry for Tectoy. Their partnership with Sega made them a pretty bleeding edge company. Since the Master System days, they translated a bunch of games and even created their own. Basically, Sega consoles were available day 1 here with official support, TV commercials, etc. Sega's downfall was also Tectoy's downfall. They went from premium console partners to make cheap DVD players and old consoles.

However, I'm a bit inclined to buy this new Mega Drive. I'll just wait for reviews.

I assumed so and it was a joke.

But it would fucking amazing if Sega released device with many Sega Saturn games built in. Maybe Brazil would even buy it!

Yes!

You're probably thinking Sony is more popular either due to the fact that PS4 is (apparently) selling more since last year or so, or the fact that the PS2 was utterly popular back in the day.

Nah, mostly because pretty much everyone I know and have known for the past 5 years at least who plays games on consoles has a PS3 and says Xbox sucks.

LOL no way Microsoft is more popular than Sony,on 7th generations maybe but 8th gen Sony is much more popular. And yes,Nintendo give up from Brazil.

Well, they don't keep me feed on great games anymore =[ . But I have to say that I even played the new and strange altered beast.

Altered beast sucks, ever did.

Such a blasphemy, just because you couldn't finish it... the new one was even satisfying.

I would buy it if it was original form factor with good games built in or with slot for memory card with rom.

I would love to see TecToy release a Saturn or Dreamcast here. I'm not that confident because they weren't hits here, since PS1/2 were pretty dominating, so they lack the nostalgic factor that Master System and Mega Drive have here.

One thing that I would really like is to see them release some games on cartridges for these consoles. They were said to be looking at it, but it would depend on renewing old licenses to actually manufacture them. Some used cartridges are now reaching ridiculous prices on the collector's market. I'm trying to find a copy of Phantasy Star for the SMS (with the save battery working), but it's impossible to find one for less than R$ 150 (no box) or 250 (with the box). US$ 1 = R$ 3.2.

If they could manage the Saturn with translated games from JP, cause they are mostly JP only, like they did with the Master System, it would become a must to western collectors (well, translated for English as well).

Phantasy Star coming in Brazilian Portuguese made it a must have and a RPG door for everyone to give the genre a try, if they can translate the actual Saturn library to re release the system, boy, that would be just beautiful, the Saturn suffered so much from it.

I would count only with a Brazilian Portuguese translation. Anyway, I think they will just re-release stuff. The times where they actually had the budget and sales to justify it is long over, since Sega went downhill.

Ah, eternal Sega nostalgia.
I think that´s a a cool idea, after all it´s sold by preorders, but.... why the controller with just three buttons? They should have launched it with the 6-button controller!

You can try to rip battery from other cartridges and even other products.

@Rogerio: original MD is 3 button.

Yes, I heard some people saying that it can be replace. But even copies that aren't saving are damn expensive. I've finished the game more than once on emulators, but played just a bit with a rented cartridge on my SMS some year ago. I would really enjoy to play it directly on the original media.

Well, it have SD slot, so if ROM is a possibility you can replay it with original control.

I've actually built a retro console using a Raspberry PI and Retropie Linux. I've seen some people using adapters to use old controllers. I'm currently just using a 360 controller, but I have to admit that it works damn well to emulate stuff until the Neo Geo. I'll probably have trouble with PS1 or N64 since mine is the Rasperry 1. Anyone with the newer model wouldn't had any issues.
