Forums - Gaming - Wouldn't it be great if Square and Nintendo teamed up again?

This is a stupid idea. Let Nintendo team up with EA or Sega instead...

Another team-up could be good, especially if it was to yield a SMRPG 2.

And back stab the company that saved them from complete oblivion, yea I agree.

Why not? Some would say they already did so to nintendo with FF7.

Without Nintendo Squaresoft wouldn't of had a company to save from oblivion.

They were facing the same problem on the NES and it was their distribution deal with Nintendo that helped saved them.

Also, it's "Square-Enix" not Square.

Enix was actually the more profitable and more valuable of the two companies.

So why Enix, who is worth was worth more in the merge should have to pay off the debts of Square I can't quite fathom.

Sony owns a great deal of Square stock, I don't think Sony would allow it.

Around 8%. I'm not sure i'd consider that a lot of it.

It used to be a great deal around... 20%. However then they merged with Enix. Which was worth more then Square. So that 20% of stock dropped to 8%.

If anything, sony support would be do to giving sony the benefit of the doubt for pushing FF7 worldwide by covering the publishing costs, and helping when their movie bombed.

8% doesn't give a lot of leverage. Sure they have some influence as a major shareholder, but decisions of where games are going is not something the shareholders decide. Shareholders can hold the board responsible when things are going wrong, a few times a year, but don't have a say in the daily business of the company.

Otherwise: why would Sony have allowed DQ9 to be on DS? It's SE's biggest Japanese franchise.

Nintendo already teamed up with Sega on Mario and Sonic at the Olympics which may sell more than FF13.

Well that was my point... any such loyalty is probably more due to square employees feeling like they owe Sony something.

After all, Enix was the real winner... Sony owns 8%. Former Enix stocholders, 55% or so. I assume Enix stockholders care more about money.

Outside of that DQ9 being an Enix product, maybe someone would claim Sony felt like they had "less right" to it? I don't know, the whole "We deserve said game because of who we are" attitude is what got Nintendo screwed with third parties.

Sony really can't afford to play that hand stock holder or not. I think Final Fantasy games just appear on the PS3 because they've lost all semblence of good story and now mostly rely on visuals. Yeah they were on the weakest console graphically in the PS1 and 2 eras but the graphic levels were similar enough, and you needed the space CD offered on the PS1 and PS2 that Nintendo's consoles weren't offering. (in either generation)

While Xbox... well you know. Doesn't sell in japan.

I mean, look at FF13.  Everyone thinks it's going to be awesome... based on a short video where you find out the Main character is a female cloud... and most likely the main villain will be some sepiroth type character.  It's one of the most hyped Final Fantasy games in a while because of enhanced graphics and because a perceived giant leap back in charatacters and story telling. (chronologically.)

The question is actually pretty simple, YES it would be great
Now, I also happen to think it might happen again in the future, specially if the wii keeps sweeping japan
I don't think Sony's influence is that big, specially since the merge... bottom line business is business, and money has the more influence, look at rare... (sigh)

Listen to the voice of reason, then do as I say.

Rare wasn't bought off by Microsoft... They were sold off by Nintendo.

I don't think it would be good, mainly due to the fact i love SE's games and never have been much of a fan of Nintendo systems! The wiimote pushes me further away as it just seems to horrible to use for long games (and yes i have used it loads)

They are already 'teaming up' again. Outside of the FFXIII series, Nintendo has the majority of Squenix titles (out of those that we know the release platforms of).

Now, we'll be able to settle this dispute when we find out what platform KH3 comes out on (I'm predicting Wii).

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?
